Attention Antioch! Please speak up to protect Zeka and keep it as open space in the Antioch General Plan! The City of Antioch is accepting public comments Nov. 3, Tuesday, at 6 PM at Antioch City Hall (200 H Street).

Developers want to build dense housing on 640 acres in the southwest corner of Antioch, land known as "Zeka" that should be protected because it’s surrounded on three sides by protected open space.

If you live in Antioch, the city wants your perspective as a member of the community! Please show up to the next General Plan Advisory Committee meeting and encourage them to protect this beautiful open space.

The Zeka land is mapped by CAL FIRE as being in "Very High and High Fire Hazard Severity Zones," so it's *not* a good place to build housing.

Wildlife connectivity has taken a big step in California state law! SB 1250 (Cortese) recently passed and was signed by the governor, and now Caltrans and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will develop a list of options for wildlife crossings, giving wildlife a voice.

Wildlife crossings will help maintain linkages between habitats threatened by climate change. We love to see this climate-smart approach!

Get outside with us this Saturday at one of Antioch's most beautiful open spaces: Sand Creek! Together, we'll start our weekend as we enjoy an easy and scenic walk along Empire Mine Road, and discuss the future of Zeka, which is currently surrounded on three sides by park lands, mapped as "Very High and High Severity Fire Hazard Risk," and threatened by a proposed development.

As we enjoy the beauty and wildlife sightings that the morning will provide, we'll discuss Antioch's future and the real ways that you can make a difference in your community.

We'll post the link to where you can RSVP for the walk in the comments below.

Elections are happening: please vote NO on Prop. 45 by November 3! With Prop. 45, our California wildlife habitats, biodiversity hotspots, and communities are at risk from polluting and destructive corporate projects.

Prop. 45 rolls back protections of the California Environmental Quality Act that improves these projects with the benefit of our precious lands, creatures, and people in mind.

Protect clean air, water, and public health by putting a stop to negligent and environmentally damaging projects, such as large housing developments in very high fire risk areas. Vote NO on 45!

You have the power to move mountains with a monthly gift. We've had a lot of local conservation victories to celebrate lately, because of the generosity of people like you, who hold Mount Diablo in their hearts!

Historic new conservation victories farther south in the Diablo Range, such as our new conservation easement in the Pacheco Pass area, great restoration work on the slopes of Mount Diablo, and groundbreaking new outdoor educational programs are all made possible by our conservation community.

Month by month, this extraordinary community of nature-lovers protects the places and wildlife we treasure.

We hope you will join our Mountain Sustainer community to help protect the land we all love.
