Food access is about more than food. It's about the infrastructure that makes community support possible.

Rising living costs and changes to food assistance programs are putting additional pressure on household budgets, making it harder for some families to afford groceries. For many, a local food pantry can be an important resource when making ends meet becomes difficult.

Food pantries do more than distribute groceries. They help bridge the gap when household budgets fall short, connecting individuals and families with a resource they can depend on.

At the Walpole Community Food Pantry, our work is made possible by a community of volunteers, donors, local businesses, and food rescue partners who believe our neighbors deserve access to nutritious food.

As the need for assistance evolves, that community support matters more than ever. We're grateful to everyone who helps keep our mission moving forward.

🚚 It takes more than food to feed a community.

Every week, the Walpole Community Food Pantry’s two vans and diesel truck hit the road to rescue fresh food, bring it back to our warehouse, and deliver it to distribution sites and housing communities across Walpole and beyond.

But rising gas and diesel prices are putting added pressure on our operations. Our weekly fuel costs have jumped 57% at a time when more families are turning to the Pantry for help.

While much of the food we distribute is donated, the fuel and vehicles needed to get that food into our neighbors’ hands depend on community support.

Every donation, share, and show of support helps us keep food moving to the people who need it.

The Pantry is paying more at the pump to keep our trucks on the road β€” at a time when we’re seeing increased need in the community. Can you help?Β

β›³πŸ‚ What a beautiful day on the course, and what an incredible community!

The Walpole Community Food Pantry’s Second Annual Golf Fundraiser took place one week ago, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day or a more generous group of supporters.

The morning started out gray and drizzly, but the skies soon cleared to reveal sunshine, beautiful fall foliage, and a fantastic day on the course!

Thank you so much to our amazing golfers, generous sponsors and donors, and everyone who participated in our raffles and auctions, this year’s event raised the largest amount in our fundraiser’s history! We’re still finalizing the numbers, but we couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible support.

Every registration, sponsorship, donation, raffle ticket, and auction bid helps the Walpole Community Food Pantry continue serving our neighbors facing food insecurity.

πŸ’™ Thank you to everyone who made this day possible. Your generosity makes a real difference in our community, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

What does food insecurity look like?

Sometimes, it's a family trying to stretch a paycheck until Friday.

Sometimes, it's a senior choosing between groceries and another household expense.

Sometimes, it's someone working full-time who simply can't make today's cost of living work.

And sometimes, you would never know.

That's one reason we're so committed to making the Walpole Community Food Pantry a place where people are treated with dignity, respect and kindness.

There are no income or financial requirements to receive food from the Pantry. If someone in our community needs food support, we're here.

A recent Pantry client put it beautifully:

β€œI was truly touched by the kindness and respect everyone showed me.”

That's the kind of community we want to be. πŸ’™

You never quite know what might show up at the Pantry. πŸ˜‚

Food rescue means that our volunteers sometimes receive some pretty unexpected donations. Maybe it's a huge shipment of baked goods. Maybe it's an enormous quantity of one particular item. Maybe it's something we simply don't have room to distribute ourselves.

The challenge isn't just getting food into the Pantryβ€”it's figuring out where it can do the most good. When we have more of something than our clients can use, we work with our network of nonprofit partners to get those items to organizations and people who can.

That's how we recently helped find homes for thousands of pairs of underwear and socks and how we were able to help a local organization get hundreds of donuts for a special event.

Nothing goes to waste if we can help it. And honestly? You never know what tomorrow's delivery might bring. πŸ˜‰

There’s a lot more behind one grocery bag than you might think. πŸ’™

Before a bag of groceries reaches a neighbor, there may have been a truck driver, a warehouse volunteer, a grocery store employee, a food rescue partner, someone sorting produce, someone checking inventory, and a volunteer loading a car.

Sometimes there are even more hands involved. The Walpole Community Food Pantry is part of a much larger network working to make sure good food gets where it is needed. We receive food from the Greater Boston Food Bank, rescue food from local retailers, and work with other nonprofits to make sure surplus food and other useful goods don't go to waste.

A bag of groceries might look simple. Getting it there is a community effort. We're grateful to every person who plays a part. πŸ’™

🧑 September 29 is Hunger Action Day

Hunger Action Day is a day to raise awareness of food insecurity and inspire action in communities across the country. And here in Walpole, we know that every action counts.

According to the Greater Boston Food Bank, 40% of Massachusetts households experienced food insecurity in 2025. Hunger doesn't always look the way we expect it to. It can affect working families, older adults, children, and our neighbors right here in our community.

But there's something we can all do.

πŸ’™ Donate food.
πŸ’™ Volunteer your time.
πŸ’™ Support a local food pantry.
πŸ’™ Organize a food drive.
πŸ’™ Share information with someone who may need help.
πŸ’™ Simply talk about hunger and help reduce the stigma around asking for assistance.

Learn more or donate online at https://www.wcfp.org/ . Every action counts. Every neighbor counts. And together, we can End Hunger Here.

Thank you, Walpole, for taking action with us. 🧑

Support Walpole families in need through food distribution, donations, and volunteering. Join us in fighting food insecurity in our community.
