Thank you to the EPA, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the City of Walsenburg, and Huerfano County Economic Development Inc for helping to make this clean up possible.

A private landowner donated the site to Huerfano County in early 2026.

* Until 700 PM MDT.

* At 630 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles southwest
of La Veta Pass, or 33 miles east of San Luis Valley Airport,
moving northeast at 60 mph.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to
mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

La Veta, Blanca, La Veta Pass, Cuchara Pass, Spanish Peaks,
Cuchara, San Luis Lake, Red Wing, Fort Garland, Great Sand Dunes,
Blanca Peak, Spring Burn Scar south of Highway 160 in Costilla
county, Spring Burn Scar north of Highway 160, Spring Burn Scar
south of Highway 160 in Huerfano county, and Indian Creek on the
southeastern Spring Burn Scar.

Ballot Issue 1A, the Parks, Recreation and Culture Mill Levy, is on the November ballot. At each town hall, County staff will explain what the measure would fund and how it would work, then open the floor to your questions.

Please see the flyer for information about Huerfano County Town Hall meetings held over the course of the next 10 days, starting tonight. These Town Halls will focus on Ballot Issue 1A - Parks, Recreation, and Culture Mill Levy.

Tonight's meeting will be at the Huerfano County Community Center in Walsenburg at 928 Russell Street, starting at 6PM. Additional meetings will be held again at the Community Center in Walsenburg, at the La Veta Fairgrounds, and at the Raymond Aguirre Community Center in Gardner. We look forward to seeing you there!
