William B. Ogden Free Library Looking for more information about us? Visit our website at http://libraries.4cls.org/walton/ The library is named after William B. It cost $13,500.

Ogden, a former Postmaster of Walton. Ogden Was elected to represent Delaware County in the state legislature in 1834. Later, he traveled west and helped establish the city of Chicago, subsequently serving as its first mayor. When he died in 1877, Ogden left funds for public purposes. Residents of the Walton community suggested an endowment for a library. Construction of the library began in 1896 and was completed in 1897. It was designed by the firm Morris and Walker of New York City, and was built by Alexander Carman of Binghamton. It was constructed from native blue stone taken partly from the quarries in Marvin Hollow and Shepard Hill. The library was opened to the public on January 29, 1899, and in 1984 it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Since then, several renovations and flood reparations have been made to increase the interior space and services without altering the historic structure.

There's still time to donate socks to our "Socktober" sock drive!

Each October, the William B. Ogden Free Library is proud to take part in The Great Give Back, a statewide initiative that encourages libraries across New York to give back to the communities they serve through meaningful service projects. For the past several years, our patrons have generously embraced this tradition, proving that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

To celebrate this year's Great Give Back, we're hosting Socktober, our community service campaign dedicated to collecting new, warm socks for local individuals and families in need.

Whether you donate a single pair or fill an entire bag, every contribution helps. Donations may be dropped off at the William B. Ogden Free Library during regular open hours throughout October. Join us in making this year's Great Give Back a little warmer—one pair of socks at a time.

Our Read & Go trip to West Point Military Academy was a wonderful way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special day of reading, history, and exploration. From sharing books and stories to exploring West Point’s historic landmarks, we hope everyone came away with new knowledge and lasting memories.

A special thank you to our wonderful tour guide Tom! (Fun Fact: He is orginally from Delhi and his mother worked at the Cannon Free Library for many years.)

We’re grateful to the grant funding that made this special program possible and to all our participants for making it such a memorable adventure!

It took a long car ride but our dear friend Lyle is visiting us at the Walton Library! He's hanging out in the children's room of the library while he's visiting! He's super excited to be here for the upcoming Cereal Cinema happening Saturday, Nov 7 at 10AM. Be sure to come by for a movie, crafts and all-you-can-eat cereal!

To find out the next movie title check out calendar at https://libraries.4cls.org/walton/index.php/calendar-2/
We think you may be able to figure out what movie we're showing though!
Hint: Lyle really really really likes this movie.

The William B. Ogden Free Library is blessed to have a beautiful historic building entrusted to our care. We’re also lucky to have a wonderful gardener who makes it shine even brighter each season!

As the days get cooler and our beautiful flowers begin to go to bed for the winter season, we want to take a moment to thank Flossie Flowers Florence “Flossie” Curtis for all the time, care, and love she puts into making our outdoor spaces shine.

Flossie’s hard work has brought color and beauty to our library all season long, and we appreciate every bloom!
