🎉 KAW VALLEY ROAD IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! 🎉

Today, we celebrated the completion of a long-awaited improvement project with a ribbon cutting on Kaw Valley Road!

🚗 Kaw Valley Road, all entrances to Wamego Middle School, and connecting intersections are now fully open to traffic!

Of the many street improvement projects happening throughout Wamego, this one has been a long time coming, and we're excited to see it completed! These improvements are an investment in our community, providing better access to Wamego Middle School and serving residents, families, and visitors for years to come.

This project was made possible through a partnership between the City of Wamego and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). Through KDOT's Cost Share Program, $1 million in state funding helped support the project!

A special thank you to the Wamego City Commission, City staff, Olsson, Ebert Construction, USD 320, and everyone who played a role in bringing this project to life. The teamwork, coordination, and efficiency throughout this project helped make it a success!

We were also excited to have representatives from the Wamego Middle School Student Council join us for today's celebration! Projects like this aren't just about improving our streets. They're about investing in the people who use them every day and in the next generation who will help shape Wamego's future.

👏 Thank you to everyone who helped make this long-awaited project a reality. We're excited to see Kaw Valley Road officially open!

⚡ PUBLIC POWER WEEK | PROUD TO POWER WAMEGO! ⚡

In Wamego, public power means more than having our own electric utility. It means local decisions, local employees, and the ability to take care of our community when it matters most!

Most days, Wamego purchases the electricity we use, but when our outside power supply is interrupted, our local power plant has the capability to generate enough electricity to serve the entire city! In fact, our crews have successfully done just that on multiple occasions! 💡

That's a pretty incredible advantage for our community, and one we're continuing to strengthen! With four new generators now fully operational, Wamego has added 12 megawatts of generating capacity, investing in the reliability and future of our electric system.

Equipment is only part of the story. Behind it all are our dedicated Electric Production and Electric Distribution crews! From operating and maintaining our power plant to caring for more than 40 miles of primary electric lines, these employees work to keep electricity flowing to the homes and businesses of Wamego. Their hard work and commitment to our community are what make our public power system possible.

That commitment to excellence extends beyond our city limits! Wamego has earned statewide recognition for safety and lineworker excellence, and we're proud to have a voice in the future of municipal utilities across Kansas. City Manager Stacie Eichem currently serves as President of Kansas Municipal Utilities - KMU and Vice President of the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA). These leadership roles help ensure Wamego is represented in important statewide conversations about public power and municipal utilities.

As we celebrate Public Power Week, we're proud of the system our community has built, the investments we're making in its future, and most importantly, the people who make it all possible!

👏 Please join us in thanking our Electric Production and Electric Distribution crews for everything they do for Wamego!

⚡ Your Community. Your Utility. Your Power.

🌳 500 TREES. 5 YEARS. LET’S GROW WAMEGO TOGETHER! 🌳

The City of Wamego is excited to launch a new Tree Campaign with one big goal: plant 500 new trees throughout Wamego over the next five years!

Over the past several years, street improvement projects and the removal of unhealthy trees have resulted in the loss of trees throughout our community. This campaign is an opportunity to help replace those losses, grow Wamego’s tree canopy, and invest in a greener future — and we need your help!

🌱 Interested in receiving a FREE tree sapling? Sign up now at Wamego City Hall!

Please note: Trees are not yet available for pickup. Residents who sign up will be contacted once the trees arrive and are ready to be distributed. We are hopeful that distribution will begin by the end of October.

Four tree varieties will be available:
🌳 River Birch
🌸 Flamethrower Redbud
🌷 Tulip Tree (Tulip Poplar)
🌳 Swamp White Oak

To participate, recipients will be required to sign a program waiver/agreement. Trees must be planted within Wamego city limits on private property and may not be planted in the City right-of-way, including the area between the street and sidewalk.

Wamego has proudly been recognized as a Tree City USA community for more than 30 years, including recognition in 2025, and has received the Growth Award twice. This campaign is the next step in continuing that commitment. 💚

📍 Stop by Wamego City Hall to sign up, and we’ll contact you when your tree is ready for pickup!

ATTN: TOTO RIBBON CUTTING RESCHEDULED TO SATURDAY AT 11AM DURING OZtoberFest.

Well friends, in what is possibly the most “Wizard of OZ” thing that could happen, our friend Toto sustained some storm and weather damage yesterday en route to Wamego. And as we all know, there has been a Witch melting amount of rain dumped on Railroad Park. After spending last night and all morning trouble shooting, we’re are pivoting away from any Friday Toto events and directing all our efforts to have Toto still ready for OZtoberfest on Saturday.

Luckily for us, Toto wasn’t kidnapped by flying monkeys, and we know a Wizard. More than one actually. Our huge collaboration of Wizards from Midwest Concrete Materials, Riley Construction Company, Inc, Icon Poly, and the City of Wamego, Kansas Government are all rallying to get Toto ready in time for our OZtobefest guests.

It will be a challenge that will take all of our hearts, brains, and courage to make happen. We are confident that Toto is indeed still coming home to Wamego, and invite you to our rescheduled Ribbon Cutting on Saturday at 11am during OZtoberfest.

When you pull back the curtain, that’s how Wamego Magic actually happens. It’s the work behind the scenes to do big things that make this community so awesome. A place where no one throws in the towel, we grab our tools and talents and go to work.

Click your heels and say it with us, “There’s no place like Wamego”.

Now we’re off to go help our Wamego Wizards get Toto home. We’ll see you Saturday.
