We have been very busy recently...

In the past couple weeks we have responded to over 50 calls for EMS.

Motor vehicle accidents Car verses tree. Pickup vs bicyclist.

Two trauma fly's from Sussex Airport by Atlantic Air. Both were very serious. One required a tourniquet applied by first responders from HPREMS & NJSP to control bleeding. The trauma center and the flight medics notified us that the patient would not have made it without those life saving measures.

Multiple heart attacks and difficulty breathing calls transported with ALS units from St. Clares to the hospital.

Many fall victims some were helped back to bed some were injured and were treated and transported to the hospital.

Several diabetic emergencies also taken for treatment.

As always we appreciate your support

The struggle is real

Yesterday we told you it costs $4,236 a day to keep an ambulance ready. Today, who actually pays that bill.

Nearly 8 out of every 10 patients we transport are covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

That matters more than most people realize. Those are government programs, and the government sets what they pay us. We do not negotiate it. We bill, and we receive whatever the rate happens to be.

Over the years the cost of everything we buy has gone up — wages, fuel, insurance, medications, ambulances. Those reimbursement rates have not kept pace.

The result is simple arithmetic. In 2025 the average call cost us about $342 to run, and insurance paid us about $326. We lose roughly $16 on the average call, which works out to about $207 short every single day of the year.

For decades, donations, fund drives and volunteer hours covered gaps like that. They used to be enough. That is what has changed — not our billing, and not our effort. The gap simply outgrew what a fund drive can close.

Tomorrow: how much busier we are than we used to be.

For those of you running on generator while we wait for the power companies to restore service please follow these rules. There's been many 911 calls for seal alarms because generators are either in enclosed spaces or too close to open windows.
