🔴 IMPORTANT UPDATE 🔴
AUGLAIZE COUNTY IS UPGRADING HOW WE KEEP YOU INFORMED
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank residents for the overwhelmingly positive response to our recently launched official Sheriff’s Office mobile app.
As part of our continued effort to modernize and strengthen emergency communications throughout Auglaize County, our office will formally discontinue the use of Nixle effective December 1st.
Nixle has served our community well as a text and email notification system. However, technology has changed significantly, and our new Sheriff’s Office app provides us with a more capable, direct, and centralized way to communicate important information with the public.
🟢Beginning December 1st, Nixle text messages, emails, & alerts will no longer be sent.
We strongly encourage residents to download our new, FREE Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office app, available for both Apple iOS and Android devices, and make sure notifications are enabled.
The app is more than a replacement for Nixle — it is part of a much larger upgrade to how emergency information will be delivered in Auglaize County.
❗Key Changes Taking Effect December 1st:❗
The Sheriff’s Office app includes direct integration with the National Weather Service, allowing important severe weather notifications to be delivered directly to your device.
Rather than our office to manually reposting alerts, weather information can be delivered through the app as it is issued.
Routine and severe weather warnings will no longer be routinely reposted to our page.
Facebook remains an important way for our office to communicate with the community, but social-media algorithms determine when — or whether — a post appears in someone’s news feed. That makes Facebook less suitable as a primary method of delivering time-sensitive emergency information.
The Sheriff’s Office app uses device push notifications, providing a much more direct method of getting important information to residents.
Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Road Advisories, major incidents, public-safety information and important Sheriff’s Office announcements will continue to be shared through the Sheriff’s Office app and our page.
🔹The Next Step: FEMA IPAWS:
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office is currently working toward implementation of FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).
Once implemented, IPAWS will provide another critical layer of emergency communication, including the ability to issue Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) to compatible cellular devices within a designated geographic area during serious emergencies.
These are the emergency alerts that can appear directly on a cell phone based on where the device is located — without requiring residents to register for Nixle, provide a phone number, or download an app.
A Safer, More Reliable Alerting System
Moving forward, Auglaize County will have multiple ways of reaching the public:
📱 Sheriff’s Office App — local alerts, road advisories, Sheriff’s Office information and automated weather notifications
📣 IPAWS / Wireless Emergency Alerts — critical emergency notifications delivered to cellular devices based on location
🌐 Facebook — community information, major announcements and road advisories
This represents a significant improvement over relying primarily on a traditional text-message subscription service.
Our goal is simple: when something important happens in Auglaize County, we want the best available technology working to get that information to you quickly and reliably.
📲 Download the free Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office app today on Apple iOS or Android and make sure notifications are turned ON.
