Joseph D. Cavaccini The official account of the 30th Town Supervisor of the Town of Wappinger, Joseph D. Cavaccini Town Supervisor Joseph D. Ketcham High School.

What began as a love and passion for history, developed into a love and passion to improve his hometown. Cavaccini has dedicated most of his life to bettering the quality of life for the people of Wappinger. Having started his public service career at age 12, he was appointed to his position within the Office of Town Historian for the Town of Wappinger. This appointment made him the youngest person to be appointed to a post within a municipal historian’s office in New York State, as well as the youngest official to serve in a public capacity in the State. Cavaccini has worked on the front lines of local government throughout his career. In working alongside five different administrations across three Towns, he has seen what works and what does not work for municipalities, and brings this innovative approach to Town Hall today. In 2014, he was appointed Curator of the Sports Museum of Dutchess County and in 2016 was the Founder and Executive Director of the Friends of Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park Inc., a community-based organization working with the Town of Wappinger to promote and preserve the town-owned Carnwath Farms Park. He remains involved in many recreation events and programming in Wappinger, formerly serving on the Town’s Recreation Committee. From 2017 to 2019, he served as Town of Fishkill Town Historian. On October 3, 2017, Cavaccini was elected to his first elected office representing the Grinnell Public Library District, which includes the Village of Wappingers Falls and Town of Wappinger. Assuming this office, made him the youngest elected official in the Town of Wappinger and the youngest at the time of taking office in New York State. In 2019, he was elected to serve the people of Dutchess County’s 15th Legislative District as our County Legislator. On November 7, 2023, Cavaccini went on to secure the Town’s top spot when he was overwhelmingly elected to be the 30th Town Supervisor of the Town of Wappinger. Throughout his time in public service, Town Supervisor Cavaccini has worked daily to be a transparent and accessible public official. He strongly supported, sponsored, and passed legislation that works on behalf of the taxpayer rather than against, by lowering taxes and bringing back over one million dollars in County grant funding to projects here in Wappinger. As the Chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature’s Environment Committee, he had the honor to lead meetings on land use, including the preservation of our farmland and open spaces. Cavaccini has a proven voting record in support of our small businesses, conscious development, first responders, and fiscal conservatism. In keeping his promise, within his first 100 days, he launched the Wappinger Protection Act. A series of legislative actions to strategically plan and protect the character of the Town. In doing just that, the Town Board took action to support farmland and agriculture by expanding agricultural programs at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park to 10 acres of community farming plots. In addition to this, the Town Board has voted to enact conservation easements and covenants to support open space. Supervisor Cavaccini is most proud that in March 2024, he championed historic legislation, to protect our quality of life by adopting a moratorium on the construction of large-scale multi-family housing developments in the Town of Wappinger. In the spirit of streamlining government operations and restoring accountable leadership to Town Hall, Cavaccini has saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in eliminating wasteful spending as well as began generating close to $1million per year through diversifying Town funds in depositories with strong interest payments. He is proud to have ended a two-year long arbitration between our CSEA members of the Highway Department and the Town government. Ensuring that the Town looks out for the best interests of our employees and holds firm on contracts. He developed a “Quality-of-Life Taskforce”, through the Code Enforcement Office whose efforts are focused on removing illegal signs that clutter our roadways and street corners, addressing and sub sequentially removing abandoned unsafe buildings. Cavaccini’s focus on enhancing the aesthetics and safety of our town has resulted in eliminating eye sores and further demonstrating his commitment to protect your property values. On that note, in March, he issued his first Executive Order, demolishing an unsafe structure on Route 9D that the Town had recently purchased, demonstrating swift action to remove these blighted and dangerous structures around our community. The purchase of 2513 Route 9D marks the first expansion of the Wappinger Town public parks system in nearly 25 years following the purchase of Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park. Through his Wappinger Parkland Infrastructure Improvement Act, announced in 2024, the Town began authorizing funding to complete the (Challenger) Inspiration Field and enhancing amenities such as light towers at the Martz Field tennis/pickleball courts, activating the wellhead at Airport Park to bring water to the soccer program for the first time in 30 years, paving Rockingham Park, removing large overgrown dirt and debris piles in various parks, a new racquetball wall at Martz Field, and funding the completion of the nearly decade long – unfinished Spook Hill Park project; reflecting his dedication to promoting recreational opportunities for all residents and proving our commitment to optimizing resources and improving service delivery. Cavaccini is a lifelong Town of Wappinger resident and lives on Rosewood Drive. His family have been proud Dutchess County residents and taxpayers since 1912. He has a background in public relations, communications, and government administration. He also serves on the Board, as well as a member, of several non-profits including the Wappingers Historical Society, Sports Museum of Dutchess County, Lafayette Lodge, No. 18 IOOF, Chelsea Sportsmen’s Association, and Locust Grove. Cavaccini has been recognized by our community a number of times when he was awarded the Dutchess County Historical Society’s Franklin D. Roosevelt Award, inducted into the Dutchess County Sports Hall of Fame for the preservation of sports history, a 2021 Rising Star by the New York State Young Republicans, and was named as a Hudson Valley Forty Under 40 Mover and Shaker by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. Cavaccini attended Wappingers schools and Marist College and is a proud graduate of Roy C. He enjoys spending his free time out and about in Wappinger supporting small businesses, traversing through our parks, and providing public tours of local historical sites and museums.

Tonight was a special evening at the 2nd Annual Barnett Bowl, hosted by the New York State Police Troop K PBA. 🏈🇺🇸

The Barnett Bowl honors the memory of Sergeant Nigel Barnett, whose dedication to his brothers and sisters in law enforcement, his commitment to serving others, and his love for the job left an impact that continues to be felt today. It was an honor to come together tonight to celebrate his life and keep his memory alive.

I was proud to open up the night’s festivities and was joined by retired law enforcement officer and Dutchess County Legislator Robert Faust, Assemblyman Anil Beephan, and Legislator Kevin Giles for this meaningful evening.

Thank you to the Troop K PBA and everyone who came out to participate, support, and remember. Looking forward to seeing the Barnett Bowl continue to grow into a lasting annual tradition in Nigel’s honor. 💙🏟️🏈

There’s not a day that goes by without something happening in the Town of Wappinger!

We kicked off the Halloween season by joining our friends at the Village of Wappingers Falls’ Halloween Parade and Festival at Mesier Park, hosting our food drive collection at Town Hall with Rotary, visiting the Wappinger Masonic Lodge for their annual Car Show & Pancake Breakfast, and helping local Scouts construct a new sitting area at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park.

We also enjoyed great live music and camaraderie at our VFW’s first-ever Vet Fest, and had the honor of attending the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church’s 60th Anniversary Gala—a wonderful celebration of six decades of faith, service, and community.

And in the middle of it all, we made time to knock on doors and visit with our neighbors in Tall Trees, checking in, listening, and hearing directly from the people who make Wappinger such a great place to call home.

From celebrating our traditions to building new ones, there is truly always something happening in Wappinger! 🇺🇸

It was a pleasure to have been invited to celebrate the grand opening of Obercreek Brewing Company in the beautifully restored historic Reese family barns on New Hamburg Road, right in our Wheeler Hill Historic District!

Congratulations to my friends Alex Reese, Alison Spear, Phil Shaw, and the entire Obercreek team on this project coming to fruition! From the excellent pizza to great Wappinger crafted beverages, you will have to visit this beautiful space! It was exciting to see these historic buildings brought back to life and transformed into a fantastic new destination for our community. Our Town was proud to offer strategic assistance and swift planning process needed to get this project completed.

Just another great day in the place we’re lucky to call home. Things are happening in Wappinger!

What an incredible evening at Cocktails & Canter at Cedar Hill Ranch! 🇺🇸

I am so grateful to everyone who came out from across our great Town of Wappinger to share an evening together and show their support for the progress we are making in our community.
From strengthening our finances and keeping taxes low, to investing in our parks, infrastructure, public safety, and quality of life, we are building a stronger Wappinger with a clear vision for the future.

Most importantly, nights like this remind me that the work we are doing is about more than government—it’s about our neighbors, our families, and the community we all call home.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and continues to believe in the future of Wappinger. The best is yet to come! 🇺🇸🐎

What a transformation! 🌿

Take a look at this incredible before-and-after at the Old Hopewell Road and Route 9 intersection. What was once an overgrown, unattractive blacktop and concrete median has been completely transformed into a beautiful new gateway to our community.

Through the Adopt-A-Spot program, which I launched during my first year as Town Supervisor, this location has now been adopted by Neave Group, who stepped up to help us reimagine the space. The old pavement has been replaced with river rock, new plantings have been added, and an overlooked piece of our community has become something we can be proud of.

This is exactly what the Adopt-A-Spot program was created to do—bring together local businesses, organizations, and residents with the Town to take pride in the places we all share.

A huge thank you to Neave Group for investing in Wappinger and helping turn an eyesore into a beautiful entrance to our community!

Yesterday, was another action packed day as we unveiled two new historical markers commemorating Revolutionary War-era sites that played an important role in our community’s history: the shipyard at Lower Wappinger Creek, established by General George Washington in 1776, and the Colonial Mill built by the VanBenschoten family to help supply the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

We also continued our work at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park, planting new trees and improving the courtyard with the incredible help of the Home Depot of Wappingers Falls, whose team generously donated both their labor and the plantings. Partnerships like this allow us to continue improving our public spaces while preserving the character and beauty of these historic grounds.

And at Brexel-Schlathaus Park, we gathered in remembrance and solidarity for Domestic Violence Awareness Day in collaboration with the Melanie Chianese Foundation. We honored the lives affected by domestic violence, remembered those we have lost, and reaffirmed our commitment to supporting survivors and strengthening our community.

From preserving the stories of our past, to caring for the places we share, to standing together for those in need, this is what our community is all about.🇺🇸

And that’s a wrap on CarniFall 2026! 🍂🍁

What a great day in Town—the Giants got the win, and our neighbors came together for the last day of an another amazing celebration at Brexel-Schlathaus Park. In the middle of all the action, I was even able to stop by a few homes to say hello and see how folks are doing back home.

Day 3 of CarniFall was another incredible day of community! 🎡🍎 From vendors, live music, great food and games throughout the festival, to our annual Wappinger Town Apple C***r Donut Eating Contest, there was something for everyone.

We also had the chance to visit our incredible volunteer firefighters at New Hackensack Fire Company and cap off the evening at Fareground’s Annual Shin Dig Gala at The Chapel at Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park, raising funds to support food security in our community.

Three very different events, all connected by the same thing: the incredible people who make Wappinger such a special place to call home.

This is what hometown feels like.

Last night was one of those evenings that makes you stop and appreciate just how special our community is.

From the energy and excitement of CarniFall, with families, kids, neighbors, and friends filling the evening with laughter, to the Friday night lights at Roy C. Ketcham High School for homecoming — our community was out, together, and making memories.
And that’s what I love most about nights like this.

Last night, from CarniFall to the homecoming field, Wappinger showed exactly what a great hometown looks like.

Proud of our community. Proud of our families. And incredibly grateful to be part of it. 🏈🍂
