CAMPFIRE GHOST STORIES on Wickets Island was a spooky good time. So many great stories were shared by our community members - the imagination of the audience was amazing! We apologize for the green smoke fire effects midway through the event, but appreciate everyone for recognizing the eerie atmosphere it lent to the event. Thank you all for sharing in the fun and s'mores.

A HUGE thank you goes out to the Buzzards Bay Coalition/Onset Bay Center for collaborating with the library on this adventure - the trip by launch over to and back from the island is one of the best features of the evening!

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.

The WFL has the resources and connections to help others feel heard. By sharing your experience, starting a conversation, or taking the time to listen, you could help someone feel understood, less alone, and more confident reaching out for support.

Health is a journey that is best traveled with the support of others!

Tweens & Teens do you feel strongly about something? School lunches, book banning, climate change - anything goes! Join us TODAY from 11am-1pm at the WFL.

Based on Rise Up: Powerful Protests in American History (words by Rachel C. Katz & art by Sophie Bass), we'll make SIGNS using the book's artwork as prompts for our eye-catching designs & snappy slogans.

This FUN workshop will incorporate examples of protests from throughout US history (MA especially) when rights were challenged and wrongs repaired. As the book says: “Protest is American by definition!”

Participants will be entered into a drawing for a copy of the book - we have two (2) to give away!

We're showcasing some of the "doodling" created during (and after) our CARA BEAN workshops!

This Community Doodle encourages users to create ANYTHING in the small square, BUT the doodler must use the edge marks to connect their doodle to the next...to the next...to the next...

Looking for a way to unwind? Feel free to visit the Reference desk to pick up a square (or two) to capture your ideas, emotions, whatever your mind frees on the paper. We'd love to add your square to our board and see where it takes us!

It's the PERFECT time to act! Interested in doing more? Consider these "prompts" for recommended resources to fight censorship:

“I Want To Learn More About the Issue”
- Get an overview at United Against Book Bans
- Set up a Google Alert for articles on Book Bans, Challenges, and Censorship

“I Want To Report Book Challenges / Bans”
- Find out if your library is experiencing censorship
- Report censorship to one or more of these organizations:
- Office of Intellectual Freedom
- PEN America
- National Coalition Against Censorship

“Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.” Visit the WFL anytime in OCTOBER to celebrate the freedom and unparalleled joy of reading what we like!

Banned Books Week takes place this week (October 4–10, 2026) and began in 1982, in response to the sudden surge in book challenges in libraries, schools, and bookstores.

"This year’s Banned Books Week campaign features three illustrations showing how libraries and access to information enrich our lives. The artwork from award-winning illustrators Hyesu Lee, Loveis Wise, and Mikey Burton embraces joy and creativity as acts of resilience, reminding our communities that a handful of people running organized censorship campaigns should not be allowed to dictate what the rest of us can read."
