I’m not a career politician. I’m a nurse, former truck driver, mail carrier, lumberyard manager, husband, father, and cancer survivor. I’ve spent my life working hard, paying bills, raising a family, and facing many of the same challenges families across the 144th District face every day.
That’s why I’m running for State Representative.
Somewhere along the way, Harrisburg lost sight of the people who get up every morning, go to work, pay their taxes, and simply want to provide a good life for their families.
Today, affordability isn’t just a political talking point. It’s a kitchen-table crisis.
Families are struggling with grocery bills, utility costs, property taxes, insurance premiums, and housing expenses. Seniors on fixed incomes are watching their savings stretch thinner. Young families wonder whether they’ll ever afford a home in the communities where they grew up.
Hardworking taxpayers are asking a simple question: How much more are we expected to pay?
I understand that frustration because I’ve lived in the real world, not the political world.
As a truck driver, I learned how fuel prices and operating costs affect businesses and consumers. At a lumberyard, I saw how rising material prices affect construction, homeowners, and small businesses.
And as a mail carrier, I had the opportunity to walk our neighborhoods and get to know the people behind the front doors. I met seniors, working parents, and small business owners. Those daily interactions helped me understand what residents value: safe neighborhoods, dependable services, affordable homes, and the ability to build a future here. Delivering mail taught me something important about representation: You can’t understand a community simply by looking at a map. You have to show up, listen, and know the people who live there.
As an ICU nurse, I cared for families during some of life’s most difficult moments, including times when financial worries added to their stress. As a cancer survivor, I know what it means to face uncertainty, make difficult decisions, and fight for what matters most.
These experiences shaped who I am, and they will shape how I approach serving you in Harrisburg.
I believe Pennsylvania should focus on making life more affordable, not making government more expensive. That means scrutinizing unnecessary spending, protecting taxpayers, supporting small businesses, encouraging good-paying jobs, and pursuing responsible energy policies aimed at lowering utility costs. It means respecting the seniors who built our communities and giving young families a chance to build their futures here.
Every dollar government spends comes from someone who worked hard to earn it. I don’t believe the answer to every problem is another program, regulation, or tax increase. Government should be accountable for its decisions and mindful of the burdens those decisions place on households and employers.
I’m running because I believe public service should be about serving people, not building a political career.
The residents of the 144th District deserve a representative who understands the value of a paycheck, the responsibility of a household budget, and the importance of keeping our communities safe, strong, and affordable.
I’ve driven our roads, walked our neighborhoods, worked alongside local people, and cared for families in difficult moments. These aren’t experiences I learned about in a political briefing. They’re experiences I’ve lived.
I’ve spent my life working for a living. Now I want to go to Harrisburg and work for you.
I’m Mike Murphy, and I’m asking for your vote because it’s time to put working families and taxpayers first
