📢 FEMA Flood Map Update
Following FEMA’s new floodplain mapping efforts announced earlier this year, the 90-day appeal period begins September 29th.
If your property is newly shown in a flood zone, appeals must be based on scientific or technical evidence, such as hydrologic or hydraulic data—not simply the fact that the property has never flooded.
Important: Appeals and comments must be submitted through your local municipality or county floodplain administrator. FEMA makes the flood-zone determinations, not the county or individual communities.
Property owners are encouraged to review the new FEMA mapping data to determine whether their property is affected. A new flood-zone designation can result in significant unexpected costs, including potential flood-insurance requirements from mortgage lenders.
The proposed maps and comparison tools are available for review. https://tinyurl.com/vx9km2yr
For the proposed map quads, select New York → Warren County and look under the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) section. https://hazards.fema.gov/femaportal/prelimdownload
Please take the time to review the new data and determine whether your property is affected before the appeal period begins.
