On Saturday, September 26th, Northern Neck Regional Jail was blessed to welcome Hope for Appalachia for the fourth consecutive year. Months of planning go into this special day, and we are incredibly thankful for the continued partnership and dedication of this ministry.
Hope for Appalachia volunteers spend the day visiting inmates throughout our entire facility—from segregation and general population to those working in the kitchen. No matter where someone is housed, the message is the same: there is still hope, there is still purpose, and no one is beyond redemption.
Through donated items such as socks, soap, chips, cookies, and a religious book, the volunteers are able to offer a tangible reminder that someone cares. But the greatest gift they bring is their time. Inmates have the opportunity to hear personal testimonies, listen to Scripture, pray with the volunteers, and reflect on the choices that brought them to where they are today.
The volunteers pray for these men and women at Northern Neck Regional Jail —to return safely to their families, to consider a different path, and to understand that regardless of what they have done, God has not turned His back on them and still has a plan for their lives.
One of the Hope for Appalachia volunteers, Mr. Dodson, shared this with Programs Technician Ms. Melton:
"I do go to other facilities, but NNRJ is unique. You all obviously care for each other and for the inmates. That is wonderful! We definitely are already looking forward to coming back."
Those words mean so much to us. At NNRJ, we believe that accountability and security can exist alongside compassion, encouragement, and opportunities for change.
Thank you to Hope for Appalachia for four years of showing up, serving others, and bringing hope and light to those in our care. We are grateful for the time, generosity, prayers, and love you continue to pour into our facility and the people inside it.
Until next year, thank you for reminding us all that hope can reach places where it is needed most. ❤️🙏
