On Friday, August 21, at around 8:25 AM, Bayfield County dispatch received several 911 calls reporting gunshots in the vicinity of West End Park. With the assistance of witnesses, the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department and a Conservation Warden, we were able to quickly identify two suspects. A fi***rm was located and a 46 year old male, who is a convicted felon, was taken into custody and is being held at the Bayfield County Jail. There is no danger to the community.

DOG REGISTRATION:

You may not be aware that Bayfield County no longer has an Animal Control Officer. The Washburn Police Department will respond to any found animals or animals running loose, however, we will not take possession of or transport any animals. We do not have the facilities or the equipment. This is why it is important that you register your dogs and make sure they have their registration tag on their collar. If your dog gets loose, we will make every attempt to locate the owner and it is much easier to do when we can look up a registration number. Dogs may be registered at City Hall and the Bayfield County Courthouse. Any owner of a dog that is not registered can be fined $175.30.

On the afternoon of Tuesday December 16, an observant resident notified the Washburn Police Department of a male rummaging through a vehicle on East 4th Street. Shortly after, it was reported the male stole a truck. Officers located the male driving the truck and took him into custody and returned the truck to the owner. We are asking that you check your vehicles, especially on East 4th Street, to see if you have any items missing so we can determine what property belongs to this male. If you find you are missing something, please let us know as soon as possible. We would also like to remind you to lock your vehicles when not in use, and that leaving keys in your vehicle is illegal.

Washburn residents: Winter parking is in effect from November 1 until April 1. We will be enforcing winter parking with tonight's coming storm. Please make sure that your car is on the EVEN side of the road by midnight and remain on that side of the road throughout the day tomorrow until the roads are plowed. If you have any questions about winter parking, please call 715-373-6164 and we will be happy to answer any questions. Please pass along to your friends and families. Also, if you don't have garbage pickup tomorrow, please remove your garbage cans from the edge of the alley to make it easier for public works to plow the alley!
