DC, let’s get ready to rank your vote!
Rank the Block is a RCV community event
where culture meets civic engagement — Go-Go music, food, community, and family-friendly fun.
Rayceen Pendarvis, lifelong Washingtonian and community advocate, wants to get you ready to rank your vote.
Remember, for the June 16 primary, ranking your ballot is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
1️⃣ Vote for your favorite candidate as your 1st choice
2️⃣ Rank your backup choices 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th
3️⃣ If your 1st choice comes in last, your vote moves to your next choice
This process repeats until a candidate wins with over 50% of the vote.
Why Ranked Choice Voting? This process gives voters more choice and helps make sure the winner has majority support. You can support your favorite candidate while still ranking backups you would also be comfortable supporting.
You can rank up to five candidates, but you do not have to rank everyone. Only rank candidates you support.
Save this as a quick RCV refresher and share it with a DC voter before the June primary.

Neighbors tasted food from local businesses, talked with our team, and practiced ranking their choices with a sample ballot.
That is the goal: make RCV feel familiar before voters see it on the ballot.
Vote your favorite. Rank your backups. Only rank choices you support.

How are Ranked Choice ballots tabulated to determine a winner? Our Volunteer Coordinator Ashley breaks it down, step by step.
Here’s the simple version:
1️⃣ Vote for your favorite candidate 1st
2️⃣ Rank your backup choices 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th
3️⃣ If your 1st choice comes in last, your vote moves to your next choice
4️⃣ This continues until a candidate wins with over 50%
Ranked choice voting helps make sure the winner has majority support, while giving voters more ways to show their preferences.
Want to feel ready before you vote? Watch this tutorial, save it, and share it with a DC voter who wants a quick RCV refresher.

We are proud to keep working alongside community partners who are helping DC residents stay informed, engaged, and ready.
