MT. STERLING, Ky. — Executive Director Jason Rainey with the Mt. Sterling/Montgomery County Industrial Authority announced they have been awarded an Economic Development Administration federal grant through the Economic Adjustment Assistance Project with a total project cost of $500,000.
The Economic Adjustment Assistance program is to help communities nationwide plan, build, innovate, and put people back to work through infrastructure, technical assistance, planning, and revolving loan programs designed to meet their local needs. The $400,000 grant is matched by $100,000 in local investment and is to support the creation of an in-depth comprehensive community and economic development plan to develop long-term strategies that will steer housing, recreation, infrastructure, tourism, workforce, and economic development in Montgomery County, Kentucky.
The plan will develop community branding and marketing tools, including website development and ideas for lead generation and business recruitment efforts. Once completed, the project will help the region outline outreach, communication, and marketing efforts to assist local business expansions and recruitment of new businesses to the community.
Industrial Authority Chairman, Spears Stilz shared his reflection on the award and its impact on the community, “I would like to thank Jason Rainey, local leaders, Mayor Al Botts, Judge/Executive Wally Johnson and the Gateway Area Development District for their hard work in pursuit and submitting the EDA grant application. The funding of this grant will provide a formal plan for needed infrastructure and amenities for Mt. Sterling and Montgomery County over the next 20 years. This will also give direction for our current and future leaders to stay on a strategic path that will continue to make Mt. Sterling and Montgomery County a great place to live and work.”
