Last night’s City Commission meeting was a special one.

We dedicated our new 2026 Vac Truck, which will help us prepare for heavy rains and flooding.

We had a moment of silence for one of Colleagues Nancy Metayer.

We also presented the Key to the City to Super Bowl Champion and former North Lauderdale resident Kenneth “Kenny” McIntosh.

And we honored longtime Aquatics Manager Susan Ellis with a retirement gift, thanking her for her years of service.

I am heartbroken.

Today, I learned of the tragic and senseless loss of Commissioner Nancy Metayer Bowen someone who was not just a constituent, but a woman I loved like a sister and a friend. This is a loss that feels deeply personal and words cannot fully capture the pain of losing someone who meant so much to so many others.

My heart is with her family and loved ones as we all try to process this unimaginable loss. I ask our community to keep them in your prayers, thoughts and support during this incredibly difficult time.

Please hold your loved ones a little closer today. Life is fragile and tomorrow is never promised.

Rest in peace, Nancy. You will always be in our heart and never forgotten. 💔

Last night the City Commission welcomed our new Budget Manager Ms. Sheron Stewart to the North Lauderdale Family. Sheron brings a great deal of budget preparation and oversight to the City and we look forward to her getting to work. Welcome aboard.

Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen has died, police said. The police department is conducting a death investigation, a sergeant said in an email Wednesday afternoon.

At this past Tuesday's City Commission Meeting, I had the honor to present a certificate of recognition to some special women in City Hall for Women International Day- City Attorney Michelle Austin Pamies; Captain Ruth Beaubrun; City Clerk Susan Slattery; Finance Director Sophia Henderson; Human Resources Director Ramona Woods; and Community Development Director Tanya Davis-Hernandez.
