🇨🇺¡Cuba no está sola!
Last week, many across the DC area joined to talk truth about Cuba — and left with one message: the people of the U.S. stand with the Cuban people.
We are prepared to say no to war and reject the genocidal blockade on Cuba.

Make the Purple Line Free to Ride!
Mass transit should be a public service accessible to everyone! As the costs of living skyrocket for Americans, the Maryland government should ensure everyone is able to ride the new Purple Line light rail system when it opens next year by abolishing fares along the route.
There is no reason that the Purple Line should not be fully funded and free to ride when it opens. Instead of criminalizing poverty and spending millions of dollars on policing in the name of stopping the manufactured crime of “fare evasion,” the state of Maryland should be taxing the corporations and billionaires that rely on the labor of Purple Line commuters to make their wealth every day.
Abolish fares, make the Purple Line free to ride!

🚌 Riding the bus should be free!
WMATA recently said that 7 in 10 Metrobus riders already don't pay the bus fare, so it would be requiring Metrobus drivers to quote the fare to all who board the bus. This will only create more conflicts between riders and drivers, and comes after MPD and Metro Transit Police began enforcing fare evasion on Metrobuses.
But there's another solution that doesn't involve violent police and criminalization: make the bus free to ride for everybody!
Mass transit is a public need and a public good, and it should be accessible to all who need it - especially now, as the cost of living is skyrocketing for working and poor people.

PSL STATEMENT: Free the DMV Gaza Flotilla Members!
Earlier this week, residents and humanitarian volunteers from the DMV area were kidnapped by the Israeli military, preventing the volunteers from delivering lifesaving aid to Gaza.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation calls for the immediate release of Haitham Arafat and Abel Bisrat, along with the more than 400 volunteers currently detained by Israel. The illegal siege and occupation of Gaza, funded by U.S. taxpayers, must end.

NEW STUDY: Trump’s DOGE purge is a racist attack, firing Black federal workers at double the regional rate.
For generations, federal employment was one of the few sectors where Black workers could find stable, well-paying jobs. This was a hard-won foothold in an economy built on their exploitation, undermined by decades of anti-worker policy from both parties. Now Trump and the billionaire class are funneling those resources into war and ICE kidnappings, stripping bare the schools, hospitals, and services that Black working families depend on to survive.
These union jobs and were not given to working people. They were fought for – from the heroic labor upsurge in the 1930s to the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. That is the kind of spirit and movement that this moment now demands.

D.C. on Track for Record Homeless Encampment Sweeps as City Runs Out of Housing Vouchers Early
After the federal takeover last year, Trump unleashed federal police on D.C.’s homeless community. Rather than step in and help our neighbors in need, Bowser’s answer has been to double down on terrorizing our most vulnerable.
The D.C. Housing Authority (DCHA) has run out of funding for housing vouchers until September, when the new fiscal year starts. Getting a voucher was already a laborious process, thanks to “means-tested” requirements that supposedly prove your need - but now it’s impossible, and the number of homeless families in the city is continuing to rise alongside costs of living and unemployment numbers.
Let’s call this what it is: war on the poor. The landlords and corporate real estate developers who get rich off this system have politicians like Bowser and many on the D.C. Council in their pockets, ensuring the laws always work in their favor.
Homelessness is a deliberate policy choice. Bowser and the Council could be fully funding programs to ensure every person in D.C. is housed, fed, and cared for. There’s no shortage of money: they always have the funds for more police, more detention centers, and more wars.
