Although it is now widely known that the City Tavern Club closed on August 31st, the Preservation Foundation is still doing its part to ensure that the transition to the next chapter in the building’s life is a smooth one. We have been quiet lately as the negotiations are ongoing, but we will keep everyone in the loop as more information becomes available. And, as always, our goal is to make sure the last Federal-era tavern remains part of the city’s history and ideally open to the public.

On June 6, 1800, President John Adams was toasted dozens of times by the “good citizens of Georgetown” and other invited guests.
In February of 2024 the Center for New Ubranism held an more informal dinner for guests attending the earlier lecture on the ever changing architectural landscape of Washington.
In May of 2024 a group of high schoolers on their senior trip to the city changed from tour clothes to business casual to enjoy a meal in a setting unlike any had experienced before.
Help save this space. This is history’s space, the city’s space, and most importantly, everyone’s space.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death, the Intolerable Acts of 1774” event on Thursday, 08/29. It was an absolute pleasure hosting NVCC’s Dr. Dluger and Dr. Porter.
We hope to have many more events like this in the future, but it all hinges on funding the purchase of the building by the City Tavern Preservation Foundation. Please spread the word and support our mission. To find out more on how you can help, please visit our website www.citytaverndc.org #1774
