Congratulations to the Dutch International Fellow, Colonel Joost Hubbers, and his wife Kris on his graduation as a “Superior Graduate” from the US Army War College. Joost and Kris, best of luck for the future, starting at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

It was great to meet my friend and Academic Year 2016 US Army War College Thesis Mentor (and Pennsylvania State Senator) Doug Mastriano again…!

It was also great to reconnect with Colonel Peter Nieuwenhuis, Netherlands Military Attaché to the United States. I had the privilege of serving as his Strategic Research Project advisor at the U.S. Army War College and later worked with him as part of Project 1721, developing strategic approaches to the defense of the Baltic nations. A good man and a dedicated professional, it was an honor to see him again.

Today, we held the yearly May 4th Remembrance Ceremony at the Dutch Embassy in Washington, D.C. During this ceremony we commemorate all Dutch citizens, civilian and military, killed during World War II and all missions, operations and acts of terror thereafter. The flow and schedule mirrored those of the official commemoration taking place simultaneously at the Dam Square in Amsterdam. Accompanied by the Brass Quintet of the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” three wreaths were laid by the Netherlands Deputy Ambassador and Defense Attaché, Dutch citizens from the DMV area, and the Canadian and Polish Defense Attachés. It was a beautiful and dignified ceremony.

Last Wednesday April 22nd, 2026 I was present during the US Army War College International Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for General Upendra Dwivedi (Army Chief of Staff, India) and NLD LTG (ret.) Nico Tak, the former Commander 1st German/Netherlands Corps in Münster, Germany. In this dignified ceremony the generals were inducted as the 93th and 94th members of the Hall of Fame.
