8th Grade Robotics Team: posted their recently earned badges & met with Mentor Joe - retired Civil Engineer. They identified their mission, measured the distance, made modifications on their robot, calculated the number of wheel rotations, wrote the code & then tested their robot. Mission accomplished! 🎉

Walker-Jones Education Campus Robotics teams hosted and
Saturday morning on a quest to acquire Oceanic knowledge. Scholars listened to experts: (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration), (National Society of Black Engineers), Water, to support this year’s FIRST Challenge theme Submerged.
Topics: using robots to map the ocean floor, robots designed to hover to take photos in low light deep sea levels, 27 Oceanic Careers, Marine Life, Medicines in the Ocean, Technology, Ocean Mythology, Anacostia Watershed, area tributaries emptying into Chesapeake Bay,
Thanks to many community volunteers scholars experienced hands on activities: collect core samples from ocean floor, clean coastal waters, using meter sticks to mark off 30 meters (length of a blue whale)

🥇🌎🏆 Ms. Shirley Sepulveda, our very own World Languages Spanish Teacher, was recognized as this year’s winner of “The Global Educator of the Year Award!” Ms. Sepulveda was recognized for her “commitment to inspiring and empowering her students.” Those nominating “Ms. S” said she is truly admirable, her passion and enthusiasm have made a significant impact on those around her.”
Ms. Sepulveda’s husband & two children attended the Global Educator Showcase event at George Washington University.

🛞🚙🛞 FIRST LEGO League
Explore Level - Our 2nd & 3rd Grade Robotics teams are exploring simple machines. We read books, then made wheels & axels with card stock, straws & tape.

One 2nd grader said “I can do this at home!” = Success!!!
