Protecting the homeland from radiological and nuclear threats is about more than detection. It requires expertise, policy, and real-world operational experience before those threats reach America.

That’s why a team from NNSA’s Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence went to Udaipur, India, last month for the 7th U.S.-India Radiological and Nuclear Security Dialogue. Co-hosted with India’s Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, it brought government and law enforcement experts from the United States, India, and other organizations to address smuggling challenges and prepare for incidents that can cross borders and oceans.

Participants turned the discussion ideas into action through a multi-day exercise.

These partnerships address emerging threats closer to their source, reinforcing efforts to protect the homeland and keep Americans safe.

The W93 warhead and Mk7 reentry body have entered the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase in partnership with U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs.

Data from NNSA's Sandia National Labs's recent Atrax sounding rocket launch is directly validating advanced computer models to de-risk and accelerate development of the W93/Mk7 system.

This milestone advances the first new U.S. warhead and reentry system design in nearly 40 years to support our sea-based nuclear deterrence mission.

The W93 warhead and Mk7 reentry body assembly are part of the Trident II D5 Life Extension (D5LE2) which will modernize the sea-based leg of the nuclear

To outpace evolving aerial threats, NNSA has partnered with U.S. Department of War’s JIATF-401.

By sharing C-UAS test data and research, we are speeding up drone defense deployments across our nuclear weapons labs, plants, and sites.

The nuclear agency’s expanded partnership with DOD’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 is meant to reduce duplicative testing and speed up drone defense deployments.
