AU Students for Liberty is a nonpartisan organization that aims to spread the laissez-faire ideology
AU SFL advocates the philosophy of liberty on campus and represents the greater liberty movement, focusing on a range of contemporary issues of political, economic, and social significance. We stand for limited government designed to safeguard people’s liberties. Our mission is to spread ideas of liberty throughout our community, to provide opportunities for students to get involved in the liberty
movement, and to underscore the valuable role students are in a position to play in the struggle for liberty. Most importantly, AU SFL’s mission is to reach out to AU students from all backgrounds, regardless political affiliation, to help our community progress. AU SFL is loosely affiliated with an array of organizations in Washington, DC and beyond—including the Cato Institute, the Reason Foundation, the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS), Students for Liberty, the Libertarian Party, the Foundation for Economic Education, Bureaucrash. Many AU SFL members in the organization have been able to use it as a springboard to become active in such organizations, to find opportunities to attend free seminars with leading scholars, to get internships in politics and academics, and to network with nationally renowned leaders in the liberty movement. AU SFL has brought to campus Greg Lukianoff, head of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), Pete Eyre, former head of Bureaucrash, and Nigel Ashford, internationally acclaimed scholar and director of the Institute for Humane Studies. We’ve also taken trips to meet Ron Paul and discuss our thoughts with top Cato fellows. Stop by our twice weekly meetings—help plan events, discuss issues of relevance to current events and laissez-faire ideology, watch a documentary, or pick up a free Reason magazine or book on the market economy courtesy of IHS.
