Great insights from Ms. Sydney Smith, Director, Materiel Management Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, HQ U.S. Army, during her panel discussion at NDIA on the Service 4 Panel. She spoke on the dual nature of AI in the defense sector, highlighting its massive information advantage while cautioning against its current challenges.
As she put it, “AI...provides an information advantage...However, AI (today) can be considered bias because information is stored in silos.”
The path to leveraging AI responsibly is through investing in our people, our infrastructure, and our principles.

Today, we're throwing it back to a pivotal piece of WWII history that originated in New Orleans: the Higgins Boat. Officially the Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP), this boat was the brainchild of New Orleans' own Andrew Higgins and his company, Higgins Industries.
Did you know that General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander, credited Andrew Higgins as "the man who won the war for us"? Eisenhower stated, "If Higgins had not designed and built those LCVPs, we never could have landed over an open beach. The whole strategy of the war would have been different."
These boats, designed and built in New Orleans, could carry 36 soldiers or a jeep and a 12-man squad, and their unique design allowed them to run up onto shorelines to quickly disembark troops and supplies. Over 23,000 were built and used in every major amphibious landing of the war, from North Africa and Italy to the D-Day landings at Normandy and across the Pacific.
A true testament to the ingenuity and industrial might of New Orleans!

Fueling the Future Force: The Army Food Strategy is Here!
Readiness is more than just time on the range or in the gym. It’s a holistic commitment to the well-being of our Soldiers. The Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) initiative is transforming our approach by focusing on five key domains: physical, mental, spiritual, sleep, and nutrition.
That's why the Army G-4 is proud to champion the new Army Food Program Strategy.
This isn't just about what's for dinner. It's a comprehensive plan to modernize everything from our dining facilities at home to how we sustain our force in large-scale combat operations. Our goal is to ensure every Soldier has access to high-quality, performance-focused nutrition that builds a healthier, more resilient, and more lethal force.
By treating nutrition as a strategic enabler, we ensure our Soldiers, their families, and our entire community are stronger and more prepared for any mission. This is how we fuel the fight and win!

On this day, we remember the start of Operation Desert Storm, which commenced on January 16, 1991. We honor every service member who answered the call. The mission's success was built on the backbone of the Army Sustainment Enterprise, whose massive and rapid logistical effort was critical to victory. Today, we remember the sacrifices of our troops and the monumental achievements of the sustainers who ensured they had what they needed to prevail.
