The Fiji Embassy in Washington DC continues to receive members of the Diplomatic Corps and the Fijian Diaspora Community to sign the condolence book for His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, former President of Fiji. The Embassy is grateful for their support and condolences during this period of mourning, which reflects the solidarity within both the international and Fijian communities. The condolence book will remain available for signing until April 16th, 2026.

Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Ambassador Ilisoni Vuidreketi had the honor of presenting the official jerseys to the Fiji Sevens Team ahead of the HSBC New York Sevens which takes place at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey from 14-15 March 2026. The jersey presentation was at Bridgewater Marriott hotel in New Jersey.

In his address, Ambassador Vuidreketi, congratulated the players and encouraged them to carry the pride of the nation as they take the field.

Ambassador Vuidreketi also reminded the team that they are more than athletes — they are ambassadors of Fiji, representing the spirit, resilience, and unity of the Fijian people. He expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and urged them to play with passion, discipline, and humility.

He also reaffirmed the support of the Fijian Embassy and the Fijian community in the United States, wishing the team success as they compete in the New York Sevens.

‼️TRAVEL ADVISORY ‼️

Security Situation in the Middle East Region

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade advises Fijian nationals to closely monitor developments in the Middle East following the recent escalation of hostilities in the region.

Fijians are strongly advised to avoid all travel to, or transit through, the Middle East region at this time. This includes travel to or transit through the following countries:

Bahrain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Yemen, Oman and Cyprus.

Fijian nationals who are currently visiting or travelling in the region are advised to leave as soon as it is safe to do so, including by using available commercial flight services as they gradually resume in some countries.

Travellers should contact their airline or travel provider to confirm the status of flights before departing for the airport. Where the most direct route is unavailable, travellers are encouraged to consider alternative travel routes where possible.

Fijian nationals currently in the region are also encouraged to register with the Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Fiji Embassy in Jerusalem to ensure they can be contacted and assisted if necessary.

If you are in a location where airspace remains closed or where the security situation makes it unsafe to travel, you are advised to shelter in place and follow the instructions of local authorities at all times.

The Ministry’s joint emergency Operations Centre continues to closely monitor developments and is exploring all available options to support Fijian nationals who may be affected by the situation.
