Theodore Roosevelt Island

Miles of trails through wooded uplands and swampy bottomlands honor the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt, America’s 26th president.

The island is a fitting memorial to a great outdoorsman and conservationist.

The statue on Theodore Roosevelt Island, along with many other statues in and around Washington, D.C. is getting cleaned, polished and waxed in anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence this summer!

Theodore Roosevelt Island is a national memorial to the 26th President of the United and honors his passion for conservation. It is also one of the best locations in the Washington, D.C. area for spring bird watching. As Roosevelt said:

"Spring would not be spring without bird songs, any more than it would be spring without buds and flowers, and I only wish that besides protecting the songsters, the birds of the grove, the orchard, the garden and the meadow, we could also protect the birds of the sea-shore and of the wilderness."
