On June 19, 1865 news spread that slavery had ended when General Gordon Granger reached Galveston, Texas. This was two and half years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Freedom! That's what our ancestors felt. That's what they believed in. That's what they saw in us, for generations to come. They never stopped fighting for it. They never stopped pushing for it. On this day, we owe it to our ancestors to continue to deliver the message of liberation and fight for equality, liberty and justice for all.

CALL TO CAUCUS:

For the office of Chair, candidates must satisfy the following:

Be a member of the National Committee; AND attend at least 75% of all YDA National Committee meetings and/or Caucus events

For all other elected offices, candidates must satisfy the following:

Be a member of the National Committee; or Be an active leader in good standing in their state caucus for at least one year; or Be an active leader or member in the national Caucus; and Attend at least 50% of all YDA National Committee meetings and/or events

Please make your intent to run for office known by emailing [email protected] with your name, phone number, email address, state of representation, a professional head shot, quick bio, aims for office/platform, contact information for your state president. All of this information will be sent out to the caucus members announcing your candidacy before the convention begins (minus the state president's information) by Monday, June 3, 2019 at 5PM EST.
