April is Second Chance Month!
CIC staff member Eric Weaver has been hard at work amplifying events for returning citizens this month. Today he attended the FreeHer March and Rally at Freedom Plaza. FreeHer calls for the end of the incarceration of women and girls and the shift in funding from prisons to communities.

📢 The Department of General Services is temporarily shutting down the steam plant on January 10, 2024. During this shut-down, no heat or hot water will be available at the Video Visitation Center, Central Detention Facility (CDF), or Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF).
Residents have been informed of the shut-down via notices on their GTL tablets and postings within the unit.

CIC Staff joined the League of Women Voters, Office of Human Rights, and the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions to observe special election for a new ANC. Resident Shameka Hayes received 25% of the votes and was elected from 11 candidates to serve as the new ANC, representing those in custody at CTF and CDF, as well as those at the Harriet Tubman Women’s Shelter.

It’s time for the CIC’s quarterly open board meeting!
The CIC will be providing updates on their FY23 Q4 activity, current projects, and goals for this quarter. This meeting will be held in person at the Marion Barry Building, 441 4th St. NW in Room 1107 and virtually on Microsoft Teams. The meeting is open to all and the link to rsvp is in our bio!
