Last week, the 2025/2026 Embassy Adoption Program concluded with a special visit from 5th-grade students from Stoddert Elementary School to the Embassy of Slovenia 🇸🇮. Throughout the school year, the students took part in four engaging encounters that brought Slovenia closer to their classroom.

The students were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Iztok Mirošič and Defense Attaché Brigadier General Klemen Medja, who shared insights about Slovenia, its rich culture, the Embassy, and the Slovenian Armed Forces.

During the visit, they proudly presented what they had learned about Slovenia to the embassy staff, impressing everyone with their knowledge, enthusiasm, and creativity. They prepared a quiz about Slovenia and truly amazed us by singing the Slovenian national anthem. Their presentations reflected the dedication and hard work they had demonstrated during the program.

The students also enjoyed traditional Slovenian pastry potica and took part in a friendly mini basketball tournament.

We are grateful to have been part of the again this year and are already looking forward to continuing the program next year!

The Embassy of Slovenia brought Slovenian art and space exploration to the forefront of the performing arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

On June 3, 2026, Slovenian director Aljoša Živadinov Zupančič and the DELAK Institute presented CONQUEROR :: CONQUISTACON at the Millennium Stage, a theatrical installation that intertwines the ideas of Cameroonian political theorist Achille Mbembe’s "necropolitics" with the "theatre of mourning".

Ambassador Iztok Mirošič highlighted the Embassy’s efforts to strengthen cooperation between Slovenia and the United States in the fields of science, innovation, artificial intelligence, and space, of which art is an important part. The performance draws inspiration from the vision of Slovenian space pioneer and futurist Herman Potočnik Noordung and his concept of a geostationary space station with artificial gravity.

The performance was organized by the Embassy of Slovenia in Washington, D.C., with the support of Center Noordung - Center vesoljskih tehnologij Hermana Potočnika Noordunga, Marko Novak, American-Slovenian Club, and VAST.

On May 27, to mark World Bee Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Embassy of Slovenia 🇸🇮, together with the World Trade Center Washington, D.C, hosted a panel discussion at the Ronald Reagan Building on the importance of pollinators and the need to protect them.

Ambassador Iztok Mirošič highlighted the vital role of bees in ensuring food security, which is closely linked to global peace, security, and stability. At the ceremony Slovenian beekeeping and distinctive tradition of painted beehives was presented as important part of Slovenia’s cultural heritage. This and the vital role of pollinators in food security, biodiversity conservation, and resilient communities was main reason why Slovenia initiated the establishment of the World Bee Day.

Ambassador Iztok Mirošič highlighted the unique qualities of the Carniolan honey bee, historical role of beekeeping among the Slovenian community in the United States, as well as cooperation between Slovenian and American scientists in research on the Carniolan honey bee.
