Do you resent ugly billboards that block your view of the landscape from the road?
Scenic America has been fighting billboard proliferation for decades — and we’re thrilled to share a major victory from our Scenic Nevada chapter. After 25 years of determined advocacy from our Scenic Nevada team, retired billboards in Reno can no longer be replaced under the current code. That means when a billboard comes down, it’s gone for good.
This is a huge win for scenic beauty, community character, and the power of persistence.
Because when citizens stay engaged, change happens.

This takes a trip to Comic-Con, where building wraps blinded tourists and locals alike. The catch? The digital advertising is actually illegal. The city of San Diego fined companies thousands over illegally placed digital billboards throughout the multi-day event. Yet, advertisers are becoming large enough to still encroach into these spaces, regardless of city input. Scenic America actively works to rid all distracting visual blight, ensuring an open and safe event-going experience for everyone.

While on an outing at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, our policy director Tziporah caught this disruptive glare of the Captial One Arena billboard. The giant building wrap distracts locals, drivers, and even museum-goers. We cannot allow this to continue. Join Scenic America in ending visual blight, ensuring Americans have the chance to enjoy scenic (and aesthetic) beauty in peace.
