On September 9th, Brazil's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) launched the 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗰̧𝗮̃𝗼 𝗡𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼 𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰̧𝗮̃𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮́𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮 (𝗣𝗖𝗩𝗖𝘀) — Brazil's National Action Plan for Clean Air and Climate for the Reduction of Short-Lived Climate Pollutants. This instrument seeks to strengthen the institutional conditions the country needs to reduce short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) emissions in an integrated and coordinated way across levels of government, sectors, and society. It aims to curb short-term global warming, improve air quality, protect public health, strengthen agricultural productivity, and build environmental resilience, under principles of equity and climate justice.
That same day, the plan's public consultation also opened — an opportunity for civil society, academia, the private sector, and other interested stakeholders to contribute directly to its development.
SLCPs have a short atmospheric lifetime but a warming potential far greater than CO₂. Reducing them brings fast, tangible benefits for climate, air quality, and public health — which is why plans like this one are essential to advancing integrated governance across these agendas.
At the Clean Air Institute, we celebrate this milestone, and we invite you to join in: take part in the public consultation 👇
