On April 5, GWTAN, our illustrious group of dedicated alumni, hosted their annual Spring Colloquium at The Westin Georgetown. This year’s event was one of the best to date and featured Mr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)—the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of sustainable and accessible tourism. Mr. Rifai had a wonderful presence and really connected with our audience as he authoritatively spoke of tourism today, declaring that we are in an era of travel and tourism. He shared his knowledge of the tourism industry gleaned from years of experience in various roles and ministries and discussed the global impact of tourism. The Secretary General was also presented with the Meritorious Service Award by the department (pictured above) for his championship of tourism, visionary work and dedication.

"I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to come and listen to Dr. Rifai speak last night. It was an incredible opportunity, and I feel very fortunate to be in that room. Hearing Dr. Rifai speak on tourism with such passion and authority has me incredibly excited about my future within the industry, and I can't wait to get started."
