Every week, 203 D.C. women – including 24 teenagers – discover they are pregnant. At the same time, infant mortality and poverty rates in D.C.

are some of the highest in the nation.

A 5% budget cut doesn’t sound like much.
Until it’s the difference between a bed and a park bench for a young mother and her newborn.
The families we serve are from Wards 7 and 8. They are DC residents. They are constituents.
The DC Council votes soon. The ask is simple — fund the safety net before the cost of dismantling it falls on the next generation.
Two lives. One decision. Let’s get it right.

What does it mean to stand for women’s lives?

It means believing women deserve safe, respectful, equitable care, throughout their maternal health journey.

It means refusing to accept preventable maternal deaths.

It means committing to a world where dignity and access is the norm for all women, everywhere.

This International Women's Day, we're standing for women's lives. Learn more: everymothercounts.org/iwd-2026

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we were honored to welcome Howard University volunteers who spent the day serving at our shelter by helping to clean, organize, and refresh our space for the pregnant and parenting teens we support.

Their service reflects Dr. King’s belief that “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” Acts like these help ensure our residents have a safe, dignified, and nurturing environment as they work toward stability and independence.

We are grateful to Howard University for choosing service and community care on this Day On, Not a Day Off.

Grateful for our incredible team and community. Wishing everyone a warm and happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🍂

This week, Building London Bridges ❤️💛🖤 returned for our 4th consecutive year to speak with students in the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP), a locally funded initiative sponsored by the Department of Employment Services (@does_dc). For 45 years, MBSYEP has been empowering D.C. youth ages 14-17 with essential life skills and work readiness.

At Charles Hart Middle School in SE Washington, DC., we dove deep into the power of real estate and smart investing, teaching these future leaders how to make their money multiply through strategic real estate decisions. This year, we introduced the ESBI quadrants (Employee, Self-Employed, Business Owner, Investor) to help students understand different pathways to financial freedom and where they want to position themselves for long-term wealth building.

We also addressed how rapidly the world is changing, especially with AI reshaping industries and careers. Rather than fear these changes, we equipped students with knowledge on how to leverage AI as a tool for their benefit and future success.

The wealth gap in real estate ownership and investment among African Americans makes this education more crucial than ever. By planting these seeds of financial literacy, investment awareness, and future-thinking early, we’re helping build a foundation for generational wealth and stability.

Once again, we were amazed by the students’ engagement, thoughtful questions, and eagerness to learn! Thank you to @healthy_babies_project for having us back. Together, we continue building brighter futures. 07/26/2025
