NÚMERO DE CIUDADANIA APROBADAS A LA BAJA 05/06/2026

Data from USCIS shows naturalization approvals are in sharp decline. In April 2025, 88,488 applications were approved—by January 2026, that number dropped to just 32,862.

Behind this decline are real challenges facing our communities. As Abel Núñez explains, increased scrutiny around public benefits and “good moral character” is creating new risks for applicants and their families. Our Executive Director is participating in the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), where leaders from around the world are coming together through roundtables and policy discussions to reflect on progress and continue conversations around safe migration. We’re grateful for the opportunity to be present in this space and bringing the experiences of the immigrant families we serve into these broader conversations.

A Maryland judge ordered property managers at condos in Adelphi to begin the permitting process to repair unsafe heating and electrical systems that left dozens of families without heat through the winter. While the court acknowledged progress toward repairs, a prior enforcement order allowing potential evacuations remains in place, leaving residents, many of them long‑time homeowners facing ongoing uncertainty about their housing stability.

At the April 21 hearing, Kevin Vargas, CARECEN’s tenant outreach specialist, attended the hearing and emphasized the importance of residents staying united and resisting forced displacement, underscoring that homeowners’ rights must be respected as solutions move forward.
