"None of you truly believes until he love for his brother or sister what he loves for himself" Prophet Mohamed (Peace Be Upon Him). TEN POINTS HOPE PLAN
1] JUSTICE
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior. As a justice advocate in exile since 1975 and as a native of Um-Rawaba, Kordofan (in the Midwest of Sudan, a buffer between North, South and West) shall work to serve the cause of justice by putting an end to political, economic, and social marginalization, once and for all. It is time for JUSTICE.
2] PEACE & DEMOCRACY
As a peace and democracy advocate who has been, since 2005, organizing peace and democracy forums in Darfur, Washington, Khartoum, and other parts of Sudan, I will work hard for peace and democracy. Our country now needs a credible consensus candidate and an outsider who devoted his life to be a part of the solution and who believes in, and made sacrifices for defending the basic human right of freedom of thought, research, belief, expression and action and respect of the rule of law through his exile story. I am a candidate that believes that dictatorship must be outlawed and that genuine democracy be the only source of political legitimacy. As a believer that violence only begets more violence, shall work, locally, regionally and globally to help bring peace and democracy to Darfur and Sudan by faithfully implementing the CPA, expedite the Doha Qatar negotiations, as well as, making peace research and education mainstream in the educational curriculum and the mass media. It is time that we have leaders capable of inspiring the people to reign in their worst demons of divisiveness, fear, hatred and violence and instead, through truth and reconciliation, and by their own example, help unleash their best angels and put the country to work. It is time for JUST PEACE. It is time for GENUINE DEMOCRACY.
3] FREEDOM
It is more difficult to live in freedom than in slavery. Liberty is an invitation to live courageously and sometimes heroically. Deprived of my freedom of thought, research, expression, organization and action, and imprisoned for expressing my political opinion, was the root cause of my exile to the West since 1975. Finding a vision that can help open our hearts and minds to enshrine liberty in our new constitution and laws has been my quest since. It is time for FREEDOM.
4] TRUTH
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free,” the Bible. Speaking truth to the powers that be is the most important role of committed intellectuals. No real accountability, transparency and good governance will be possible without it. The truth is that the Sudanese people have been deprived of their basic human rights and freedoms such as the freedom of thought, of expression and of action. Most believe that hypocrisy, lies, corruption and impunity are king in today’s Sudan. It is time for TRUTH.
5] CHANGE
“God does not change a people until they change themselves,”
the Quran. Despite all the suffering, the Sudanese people are waiting for a change to occur. They know now that the root cause of their predicament is the collective failure of all the political elites to come up with an enlightened democratic governance vision capable of setting the country on the path of a much-needed societal renewal befitting the 21st century. One that is capable of embracing the unique geo-cultural, political and spiritual pluralist Afro-Arab and Universalist identity of the people. A vision that celebrates their rich diversity to fulfill Sudan's logical promise and destiny to remain voluntarily united and become an oasis of peace, prosperity and a fountain of spiritual and humanitarian awakening. A vision that will liberate the people and opens the floodgates of the country to finally realize its promise and destiny to be a shining star: a luminous city on the African hill. It is time for a CHANGE.
6] HOPE
The Sudanese people have a growing awareness that despite the failures of the past and the present, and their disenchantment with a lot of the old policies and faces, considered being part of the problem rather than part of the solution, they hope and dream of building a Garden of Eden in their country. They also believe and are hopeful that with free and fair elections, they are capable of electing a new leadership that embodies a new vision and a road map for the country that can take them there. They are ready and hoping for a new kind of inspiring leadership that has a record of working for and capable of becoming part of a solution. They are hoping for a leadership that can mobilize their energy to realize the dream of a modern, peaceful, united and prosperous Sudan. They are ready and hoping for a new kind of leadership. It is time for HOPE.
7] DEVELOPMENT & PROSPERITY
The Sudan has many assets. It has a highly educated professional work force inside and outside in the Diaspora in the West, the Gulf and in international organizations, an estimated 6.6 billion barrels of oil, 60 million of animal resources, 250 million hectares of fertile land and abundant Nile and rainwater. However, despite the discovery of oil, 40% (16 million) of the Sudanese people (40 million of whom are between 8 and 14 years old) live below the poverty line, 80% are illiterate, and the country's GDP is only US $2,200 while its debt is US$ 31.8 billion. By radically changing the political environment through new-enlightened policies in concert with our regional and international partners, we will quickly rid the country of the debt burden, attract foreign investment, create new jobs and put people to work to finally realize the deferred dream of the Sudan becoming the bread basket of Africa and the Middle East. By unleashing the creative energies of the people and steering them through hope, peace and good governance, the people can finally realize Sudanese prosperity and true security. It is indeed past time for
DEVELOPMENT& PROSPERITY.
8] DIGNITY
“We have not sent you, but to be a mercy to the World,”
the Quran. Millions of Sudanese have unnecessarily perished in futile wars, and too many have suffered and continue suffering indignities of all sorts, including children, women, senior citizens because of erroneous ideologies, intolerant policies and small politics. From a Scriptural and a Humanist perspective, all human beings are the children of God and the responsibility of the state is to protect their lives and their dignity, not to enslave and humiliate them. Therefore no human being should be subject to humiliation for ethnic, religious, cultural or whatever other reason. We need to practice humility, self-criticism and admit human errors of judgment to open the way for truth, reconciliation and healing, pre-requisites for a possible and prosperous future…
It is time for DIGNITY.
9] CONSENSUS
Intolerant ideologies and exclusivist dogma have been, through the ages, the root cause of unnecessary suffering of humanity. They have proven their objective limitations, even in less diverse societies (Europe’s Holocaust, Iraq’s dictatorship, South Africa’s apartheid system, Rwanda, and of course, Darfur’s genocide). Part of Sudan's predicament is a predominant and polarizing political elitist culture of intolerance and ethnocentrism. It is time for a culture that celebrates tolerance, pluralism, and respectful cross-cultural and interfaith thoughtful dialogue. It is time for a culture that seeks cross-cultural and interfaith understanding, and a healthy common ground: a win-win culture; a culture of inclusion and consensus. It is time for CONSENSUS.
10] UNITY
By working hard to realize the above we will not only make unity between the Sudanese people, in their religious, ethnic and other diversities, attractive, but imperative. In so doing we will work hard to achieve an enlightened unity in diversity and equality of all citizens before the law. This will help a renewed Sudan to emerge, as a healthier microcosm of Africa and the Middle East. Through uniting its parts, and celebrating its 7000 years of civilization and diversity as an asset, the country can focus on realizing its great national, regional and international potential. It can finally realize its more noble aspirations and its deeper and larger promise of becoming a solid foundation for realizing the pan African dream of the United States of Africa, by realizing its own unity. It is time for UNITY. TOGETHER IN FREEDOM, JUSTICE AND PEACE WE CAN RENEW, PROSPER AND CHANGE THE WORLD FOR THE BETTER… YES WE CAN
INDEED WE MUST.

A BETTER SUDAN IS POSSIBLE AND NECESSARY:
SFPUM is inviting you to consider serving a hope and change agenda inspired by a belief that, at the dawn of this new century, 20th century visions have become, in large part obsolete, and that consequently all societies are yearning for renewal and re-birth. That is not possible without proposing an audacious vision of hope a la OBAMA, and daring new ideas and visions of governance informed by critical and honest evaluation of the past and the lessons learnt. That is why we have opted out of the system to have our own voice and, selflessly and with great sacrifice, dare to dream the impossible dreams, and have been speaking truth to power. SSF-IPQI believes that peace education is needed in cultures that are prone to feelings of injustice, real or perceived, the bedrock of feelings of powerlessness, anger, hatred and terrorism. So building on the CPA we plan, through SSF’s peace education forums, to create a grassroots peace movement that is novel, inclusive and efficient. The uniqueness of our forums is that they are ethnically, religiously, politically and culturally inclusive. They espouse SSF’s vision and mission laying down a foundation for a new peace-centered culture in the Sudan and the region. Consequently, the content, nature and reality of the prevailing education system in Sudan and other countries in both the Middle East and Africa, of which the Sudan is a microcosm, is of utmost importance in fulfilling our ambitions and vision of a peaceful and a stable democratic society. We aspire to contribute to the gradual emergence of a new system, which is inclusive, not only for the privileged few, one that caters for the poor as well as the rich, a democratic, evolving an integrated holistic system. SSF-IPQI peace education forums are designed to achieve four goals:
(1) Exploration – To help rid people of the fear to express themselves freely on the issues that concern them;
(2) Conflict Transformation –To create a safe space, hearing from everyone, building trust, sharing personal stories and views;
(3) Decision-Making— To provide a neutral, inclusive space for thoughtful dialogue and deliberation among elders and youth, whereby everyone participates in naming and framing of grievances or problems, weighing options, considering different positions, revealing public values, brainstorming solutions; and
(4) Collaborative Action—To equip locals with the knowledge, tools, and networks to provide a regular traditions of convening small, neutral spaces that facilitate neighborhood/village capacity for coalition building and implementing action plans collaboratively. SSF-IPQI follows this comprehensive approach to peace and democracy building by highlighting critically the issues and concerns through collation of expert panelists and speakers, and then facilitating—through trained moderators and peacemakers—the ability of the group to capitalize on the insights of every participating individual. Building on and fine tuning the disparate ideas of experts, we incorporate roundtable dialogue and deliberation sessions that aggregate people’s views and solutions based on flexible categories of themes, goals, visions, grievances, and solutions. The idea is to see how we can channel a collective path forward for producing a national consensus on a roadmap of an integrated peace education and democratic system. SSF-IPQI also seeks to help people build on each other’s knowledge, skills, and networks to fortify their communities with the peace education and post conflict resolution and their growing awareness of human rights and knowledge of the contents of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). Fatima Hassan. A civil society woman leader said at the SSF Darfur peace Education forum in El-Gineina that she felt so empowered with the SSF vision that she believes all participant should go into the IDP camps, hamlets and everywhere in the Darfur communities to share what they have learnt. Because of the totalitarian nature of the system, the polarization and the fear factor, fragmentation and tribalism kept people divided and politically powerless. In our discourse and action, we stood out because we offered people the chance to meet across party, ethnic, religious lines, and dare speak their mind, for a change!
1- SSF-IPQI GENERAL ASSEMBLY:
A HISTORIC MILESTONE. On March 10, 2008 we held our first General Assembly meeting in Khartoum. We sent out 100 invitations and 72 people turned up. Those present represented most of Sudan’s political, cultural, religious, ethnic and regional groups. The meeting elected a leadership council of 5. All members present in the meeting were asked to register on the following working groups/committees:
1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6-
Research, Publication and Documentation Committee. Program and Project Preparation Committee. Financial Resources, Investment and Administration Committee. Information and External Relations Committee. Advocacy Committee. SSF-IPQI’s Peace Academy Land and Construction Committee. Various brainstorming meetings of these committees took place and their promise is great. The SSF-IPQI Peace Academy Land and Construction Committee already has obtained a promise from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to get a free area of land for the construction of a SSF-IPQI permanent office and a peace academy in Khartoum. I am happy to report that, we were able with hard work, dedication, sacrifice and self denial, and in a very tough, suspicious and hostile environment, to convince a people who are still afraid and have almost given up, taking us seriously because of the integrity of my personal, political and family history and the clarity of the vision and mission SSF is presenting. However, the reality is that Khartoum is expensive and the ruling NCP will only help organizations that do their bidding. SSF, being American, is perceived to be rich! Hence, to be able to continue on this important, foundational one year investment effort, SSF-IPQI needs an extension of the project/program and substantive additional funding to enable all these committees to do their work properly. For us to be taken seriously on the implementation and operational level we need a significant, yet foundational amount of funding to help fund these committees development for a continual on-the-ground grassroots presence for peace building efforts in the Sudan. It was also as well an opportunity to begin planning an individual donor strategy for sustainable funding and fiscal growth. Committee members asked, “What do we need to transform the vision and mission we share into ongoing, synergistic, and coordinated action? People welcomed the opportunity to listen, learn and impart relevant theoretical and practical ideas to bring about lasting change. We challenged the participants to reflect on the question whether, because of apathy and fear, they could be part of the problem. And whether, by changing their attitudes, they can become part of a solution. By sharing SSF-IPQI’s vision and mission we contributed in raising their level of awareness and hope. As many of them expressed, they felt empowered to discover other perspectives in thinking through their problems and were uplifted by the prospect of becoming part of a grassroots movement that can open the gates for the foundation of a bright socio-economic future, thus becoming part of the solution. A respected economist-businessman who attended the SSF-IPQI Khartoum Peace education forum said that he was thrilled that SSF succeeded in bringing political leaders representing the major political parties, with the ambition of helping start a culture of listening to other perspectives respectfully.
