Kudoboard for Jen Geoffroy | Kudoboard 05/30/2023

As people may know, Principal Geoffroy is ending her service at Hearst after this school year. She would like to remember Hearst through our words. Bring a handwritten note to her celebration parties (June 14) or add a message to this Kudoboard, which will be bound into a book for her. Submission deadline is the last day of the school year, June 22. Alumni, former staff, and community members are welcome to contribute. Share the link widely!

Hearst's Girls on the Run on a beautiful fall morning running 5K in the culminating event. Thanks to Ms. Duvall and Ms. Boone for a great season. Thanks to Dr. Chen for bringing snacks and supporting the team on the finish line. We had strong parent support even with the 7:15 AM start!

Hearst Community Day May 2021 is a wrap. A BIG THANKS to the students (Student Council, Business owners, volunteers, and classmates), staff (teachers and Mr. Harrington) for the support, and the families for showing up in numbers. None of this would have happened with out the volunteers, elected, scheduled, and impromptu. We have multiple student vendors sell out and others see solid business, we sold a lot of books and Hearst gear, saw some great swaps and steals, generous donations, enjoyed student art, and most importantly, our community gather back at Hearst. For those that could not make it, please check out these photos.

The "best little school in the district" and its lost and found rack in the new gym/lunchroom/theater making the front page of DCPS FB today.

Consider joining the Parent Advisory Board (see the post)

DCPS is looking for 32 parents and guardians (4 per Ward) to serve on Chancellor Ferebee’s Parent Advisory Board. Parents who serve on the advisory board will learn more about DCPS priorities and provide input in the implementation of policies, programs, and new initiatives for School Year 2020 – 2021. Our goal is to recruit a diverse group of parents who can represent all students and families’ voices across the District.

Complete the application online: bit.ly/dcpschancellorparentboard

You can also request a paper application by texting (202)480-3166 or by emailing [email protected].

Applications are due by June 30 at 11:59 p.m.

As our young scholars move into summer, here are some good online safety tips to always keep in mind from the folks at https://www.childhood-usa.org/

The end begins, so must several staples of Hearst life.

Box Tops

The time cherished tradition of cutting box tops off of your favorite consumed goods, bagging the non-expired ones in groups of 50, and bringing them to the PTA mailbox (by Tuesday, October 29th) is ending.

BUT WAIT, Box Tops is only changing its program so just no more clipping (mixed feelings). Here is how to do it now:
1. download the Box Top app
2. scan your (or anyone's) grocery receipt
3. earn easy money for our school

Helping Hearst while buying school supplies

As pitchers, catchers, and teachers report to summer training; it is time to start thinking about getting ready for the upcoming school year. The Hearst PTA has several retail loyalty partners that provide fundraising when you shop. Check out our page, http://www.hearstes.org/retail_loyalty for participating retailers like Target or Amazon.
