DC Fire and EMS is so much more than responding to emergencies. Serving means showing up for our community.

Lt. Briana Johnson was inspired to bring a little extra joy and opportunity to her neighborhood by placing a Lil' Free Library in front of her Engine Co. 14.

This special space filled with school supplies and books encourages children in the community to stop by, grab a book, pick up school supplies, and discover the joy of reading and learning.

It’s a simple idea with a BIG impact.

Because being a firefighter isn’t just about saving lives—it’s also about inspiring the next generation.

Following the tragic fatal fire in the 600 block of Geranium Street NW, the DC Fire and EMS Fire Prevention team returned to the neighborhood to provide support and important fire safety information to residents.

Our team went door to door, sharing life-saving fire prevention tips and installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in homes.

While we cannot change what happened, we can work together to help prevent future tragedies.

Every home deserves to be a safe home. Our thoughts remain with those affected by this tragedy.
