“There is a verse by a Puerto Rican poet named Juan Antonio Corretjer that my heart always goes to: ‘Yo sería borincano (boricua) aunque naciera en la Luna,’ which loosely means that I will always be Puerto Rican regardless of where I was born.

“My culture is always with me. It's in my actions, my values, and especially in my food.

“Those who know me have heard me talk endlessly about Puerto Rican food culture. That’s because for years I have hosted and fed countless friends and neighbors—including those who, like me, once struggled to provide a single meal for myself over the course of a day or two.

“I return to this question: How can we bring visibility to our communities’ stories and feed even more people? What does visibility make possible for someone who needs help today?”
