Our pioneer ancestors didn’t let seemingly impossible challenges stand in their way. They found innovative ways to move water in the desert and build thriving communities. Saving the Great Salt Lake will require that same kind of bold thinking.

Protecting the Great Salt Lake is both an environmental and economic priority, and we need out-of-the-box innovation and strong collaboration to make it happen. It won’t be easy, but Utahns have never been afraid of a challenge.

Listen to our conversation on Deseret Voices here:

Three months ago, we told you the Great Salt Lake was disappearing — and what Utah stood to lose. Today, we ask the harder question: Is anyone actually saving it? In June, "Deseret Voices" Episode 37....

Highs and lows coming to you from an advanced nuclear reactor site, where I’ve joined senators and governors from the Mountain West to see firsthand how American innovation is paving the way for an affordable, reliable, and clean energy future.

Wildfire technology is advancing quickly, but getting the best tools into the hands of firefighters can still take far too long. I appreciated speaking at the Wildfire Technology Summit to discuss how the Fix Our Forests Act can modernize that process, improve wildfire intelligence and coordination, and make sure firefighters have the technology they need to protect themselves and our communities.

In Utah, nearly all of our water supply depends on mountain snowpack. With water being one of the defining challenges facing the West, better forecasting means better decisions for our farmers, communities, and water managers. Proud to see our bipartisan legislation to improve snowpack monitoring and give Western states the information they need to plan ahead pass the Senate.

Senators Curtis and Hickenlooper celebrated the Senate passage of their bipartisan bill, the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program Reauthorization Act, to help better predict and measure water supply to manage drought in the West. Despite the heavy precipitation Utah has seen in recent days, Utah, C...

More and more businesses are making major investments in Utah—providing good jobs and supporting local economies. It was great to tour new cutting-edge facilities in Juab County, and discuss how we can remove burdensome, unnecessary regulations and ensure more regulatory predictability from Washington.

Growth, water, and housing affordability are top of mind for Utahns—particularly in communities like Nephi, Manti, and Ephraim. Great to meet with commissioners from Sanpete and Juab Counties, as well as Ephraim Mayor Chris Larsen and members of the city council for a discussion on transportation, business development, and the work we’ve done to improve water infrastructure in the region.

Utah is home to thousands of veteran-owned businesses—many of which play a critical role in supporting our defense industrial base. Enjoyed touring Straight Jacket Armory, which recently set up shop in Nephi, to see how they are supporting various U.S. military units, including Special Operations Forces and Navy SEAL programs.
