This week, we had the pleasure to meet the US South Pacific Scholarship (USSP) participants during their trip to Washington DC to learn more about the US government and policy making.

Funded by the US Department of State and administered by the East-West Center, USSP is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program that provides opportunities for Master’s and Bachelor’s degree study at the University of Hawai‘i in fields that are directly relevant to the development needs of Pacific Island countries.

We send a monthly newsletter about things our department is working on, as well as a curated list of publications and opportunities from the entire East-West Center.

We released updated ASEAN state one-pagers, covering ASEAN's relations with each of the 50 US states as well as the District of Columbia.

During the workshop from March 25-27, 2026, alumni worked together to move beyond analyzing shared issues and goals between US-ROK-Japan and towards working together on projects that address those issues and strengthen the trilateral relationship.
