This week, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke received a delegation of cadets from the United States Military Academy, West Point, at the Royal Palace in Luxembourg. The future officers are currently undertaking a European tour dedicated to the remembrance of the Second World War. They began their visits in Auschwitz—symbol of some of the darkest chapters in human history—and they will conclude their tour in Normandy to mark the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The Head of State and the cadets exchanged views on their respective experiences at West Point and at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where the Grand Duke received his military training. Grand Duke Guillaume also emphasized the importance of European values such as peace, freedom, and cooperation, recalling the sacrifice of thousands of young American soldiers who fought for the liberation of Europe.
Among West Point’s alumni are General of the Army and 34th President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower, as well as General George S. Patton, a leading U.S. commander during the Second World War, who is laid to rest at the American Military Cemetery in Hamm, Luxembourg.

🎉 Celebrating 2026 and 🇪🇺🇱🇺🇺🇸
This year, we celebrated in the unique context of the America250 commemorations. The 🇱🇺 Embassy highlighted the shared Luxembourg–American story through an inspiring exhibition featuring:
1. Bernard J. Cigrand – the “Father of Flag Day”. A Wisconsin school teacher, who first celebrated June 14 with his students in 1885. President Woodrow Wilson made it a nationwide observance in 1916 🇺🇸.
2. Mother Mary Alfred Moes – a healthcare pioneer whose work after the 1883 Rochester tornado helped spark St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota - and eventually the Mayo Clinic 🏥
3. René Arend – yes, the Luxembourg chef behind Chicken McNuggets! 🍗
A huge thank you to Ferrero and Ansay International for helping us share a taste of Luxembourg with the Washington community through culture, food, and drinks.
To everyone who joined us—thank you for celebrating! Can’t wait to see you next year 😉

🇺🇸🇱🇺 Honoring Heroes. Remembering Sacrifice. Celebrating Friendship.
During their visit to New York City 🗽, H.R.H. the Grand Duke and Minister Xavier Bettel made a meaningful stop at the Luxembourg House to pay tribute to four incredible American WWII veterans — Joe Landry, Sydney Levit, Frank Stellar and Russell Sattazahn — whose bravery helped defend Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge.
In one of the largest and deadliest battles ever fought on European soil, American troops stood shoulder to shoulder with local communities — defending families, towns, and the freedoms we all hold dear. Their courage didn’t just shape history — it became part of Luxembourg’s story, a legacy that still lives on in the hearts of its people.
At a time when the world faces new challenges, their legacy is a reminder of what true courage, resilience, and sacrifice look like. It’s a legacy that continues to strengthen the unbreakable bond between the United States and Luxembourg — rooted in shared values, unity, and a friendship that spans generations.
🇺🇸🤝🇱🇺 We remember and honor — with gratitude.

🇱🇺🇺🇸 Grand Duke in New York City to celebrate transatlantic innovation
Last week was marked by a strong celebration of the close and enduring relationship between the United States and Luxembourg.
His Royal Highness the Grand Duke, together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel, and Minister of Finance Gilles Roth, visited New York City on the occasion of the Luxembourg–American Business Award ceremony. The biannual honor rewarding transatlantic innovation was presented to Plastipak, a leading producer of PET bottles and preforms. Plastipak plays a key role in food grade PET recycling and actively contributes to the circular economy and the sustainable recovery of plastics.
Beyond the economic relations, His Royal Highness underscored the profound historical ties uniting our two nations. A solemn and deeply moving commemorative event paid tribute to the World War II veterans whose courage and sacrifice played a decisive role in the liberation of Luxembourg. Their bravery and commitment remain a lasting symbol of the shared values of freedom, solidarity, and friendship that continue to bind our countries today.
A powerful reminder that our relationship 🇱🇺🇺🇸 is built on shared values, economic cooperation, and a common history—looking confidently towards the future.

✨ Thrilled to welcome an amazing group of Miami University students to the Embassy during their visit to Washington, D.C.!
Did you know that Miami University has had a campus in Luxembourg since 1968?
The Embassy had the pleasure of welcoming some students. Many had previously spent a semester at Miami University's John E. Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg (MUDEC), making it a wonderful moment to reconnect, and dive deeper into what makes our transatlantic bond so special.
From global challenges to the power of diplomacy, their curiosity and energy were truly inspiring. 🌍✨
