Remember how Senator Rand Paul attached a concealed-carry reciprocity amendment to last years budget autonomy bill, effectively killing it? They're trying to pull the same thing with the gun bill now. Just further proof that Congress views D.C. as a guinea pig!

Could national reciprocity of concealed-carry permits kill the gun bill? Proposal backed by many GOP, Democratic senators could water down overall legislation.

Also, let's work hard to get some real advocates for student organizations and budget transparency into the SG executive branch. Ben Johnson for AU Comptroller and David for AUSG President are our picks for this election. Help them out by logging onto your AU portal and voting under the "Life@AU" tab!
Come to MGC 245 now for DC: The Last Colony?! There are carrots and celery an COOKIES! And of course intellectual discourse. Woo!
Looking forward to this evening's event! Come to MGC 245 at 5:30 tonight to hear Professor Bratman speak about colonies and developing countries, and how they compare to DC. There will be light refreshments, so don't be late!
Right now the AU’s Student Government doesn’t do enough to help out student organizations. But all that could change with the upcoming election because there’s a new candidate in town.
Ben Johnson is a straight up badass. He’s promised to do more than just make sure the books are clean. He’s promised to be a real advocate for student organizations by establishing new grants for student-led programming, especially those involved in social justice campaigns.
The current comptroller might have overseen the lowest tuition increase in history, but he wasn’t out in trenches. No, that would have been Ben Johnson, who helped collect and present the 1700-signature petition supporting a tuition freeze. AU administrators later said that the lowest tuition increase in recent history was largely due to the efforts of students like Ben.
But seriously, this kid is the man. As a dedicated member of CASJ, Johnson knows what it’s like to fight the good fight. And right now fighting the good fight means getting this champion elected as SG Comptroller so he can empower us in return! That's why I am proud to announce that Students for DC Statehood is endorsing Ben Johnson for AU Comptroller!
Students for DC Statehood would like to formally endorse AUSG presidential candidate David Shadburn for this upcoming election. Students for DC Statehood has chosen to endorse David Shadburn because he has a strong stated commitment to both the cause we as a club advocate for, and for promoting solutions that would make it easier for our club to exist and operate on campus. David understands and supports our efforts to bring increased enfranchisement to the District, and the importance students play in our journey towards statehood. Additionally, David’s call for increased representation of small activists groups on campus, plus increased funding to clubs will help Students for DC Statehood more efficiently operate on campus, and contribute to the AU community.

These are some of the most reasoned arguments I've heard for statehood in quite a while. Listen to this interview by former executive director of the ACLU-NCA, Johnny Barnes!

Johnny Barnes Calls for Statehood (Not Voting Rights) for the District of Columbia LISTEN TO JOHNNY BARNES download mp3 The District of Columbia is not a state. Let's try that again: The District of Columbia is not yet a state. "It's going to happen in my lifetime. I believe that," said Johnny Barnes, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of the National Capital...
