Peace in East Asia through Creative Engagement PEACE is a highly esteemed academic and political action student organization founded at American University.

We are a platform for students, professors, scholars, professionals, think tanks, and other institutions to creatively exchange alternative approaches to subjects pertaining to East Asia. We hope to bolster peace by challenging students to expand their perspectives to traditional approaches to conflicts in the region while also grounding their understanding of East Asian studies through academia.

In honor of National Coming Out Day, PEACE recognizes that self-disclosing one's gender and/or s*xual orientation takes an abundance of courage, along with love and support from the surrounding community. We also recognize the severe lack of LGBTQ awareness and support in East Asian societies and will thus continue to create a space in which all individuals feel empowered to initiate, contribute and participate in the fight to end gender and s*x based discrimination in their communities.

PEACE had the privilege of hosting a screening for the film, "Spirits' Homecoming" last Friday, where students were able to learn about the s*x trafficking imposed on young women during WW2 by the Japanese Imperialist Army. As today marks the International Day of the Girl, PEACE hopes to become a platform in which women all around the world, regardless of their backgrounds, can take initiative to overcome gender injustices and share their own narratives as valuable members of our community.

PEACE - "Spirit's Homecoming' 10/10/2016

Happy Monday everyone! Although a little late, we would like to thank those who came out to "Spirits' Homecoming" film screening event on Friday (10/7). It was great to see many people interested in the Japanese military s*x trafficking, "comfort women," issue. We hope that this event will serve as a catalyst for more discussions and actions for former "comfort women," survivors of war crimes, and victims of s*xual violence.

Below is AU Photo Collective's album that recaps Friday's event. Thank you for your time to come out on Friday evening, and we hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the day.
