Following a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery today, their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with Rear-Admiral Kristjan Monaghan, Canadian Defence Attaché, met with Canadian Armed Forces members based in Washington, D.C. The Canadian Cross of Sacrifice is a gift from Canada to the United States, dedicated in 1927. The monument honours Americans who volunteered to serve in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War, before the United States entered the conflict.
More than 40,000 U.S. residents enlisted. The Cross stands as a quiet reminder that the bonds of service extend beyond borders.
