Thanks to everyone who supported me. We finished a distant second, but considering the heavy odds against us, I feel we accomplished so much in advocating for moderates in Maryland. Please continue to work with me to ensure that the silent majority of independents and moderates are not ignored. Let's consider this the beginning of our campaign for the 2020 elections! I will run again!

Today is the final push for THIS election everyone. I know that there are a lot of people out there who feel that a more centrist view on issues is needed by Democrats. Please head to the voting booths today and make sure that you make your voice heard so that this party represents the majority of our district and NOT fringe interest groups or big corporations. I will dedicate my time in Congress to making sure that the lives of our hardworking residents are improved. See you at the polls!

Someone just raised the issue of foreclosures in MD, and I think if someone had to ask, it's possible that others are wondering as well, so I'm sharing my thoughts here: Foreclosures, gentrification, and homelessness is a serious problem which weighs heavily on me. I also talk about this in my video and on my website http://summerforcongress.com/district8issues/ under gentrification and homelessness. Unfair insurance practices, ridiculous hospital bills, predatory lending, subprime mortgages and job loss, are all frequent contributors to the ongoing foreclosure crisis in Maryland. What makes the situation worse, though, is the way that the law allows people with foreclosed homes to be treated. According to Md. REAL PROPERTY Code Ann. § 7-105.1, a person can make consistent payments on their home for 29 years and with one year to go before owning their home, find themselves unable to make those payments for 90 days, and lose their home. THEY lose EVERY penny that they ever paid or invested in the property. The bank keeps it all AND takes back the house. This is inherently unfair. Another situation which galls me is the plight of many long-time maryland homeowner who can't pay the increasingly expensive property taxes that accompany the sky-rocketing values of their homes. They face one of two choices, leave their home communities or face almost certain foreclosure and bankruptcy.

In April, the video was recorded sharing my view on Immigration reform, gun regulation, insurance, environment, transportation, and other issues. We kept this video under 5 minutes, so there's a lot of content condensed into that short time. Please take a moment to watch. Thanks to Carol County's Community Media Center for recording this!

It's time that moderate Democrats feel represented in congress. We care about the environment, fiscal responsibility, the economy, good paying jobs, affordable childcare, affordable education, safer schools and affordable insurance. At the same time, however, many of us are ethnic minorities with a strong religious background. A part of our concern about equal rights for all is our concern about those who are unable to speak up for themselves - the homeless, the elderly, and yes, the unborn. We care about the lives of our fellow human beings from womb to grave.
That's why I felt compelled to run for congress in District 8 of Maryland - the moderate Democrat has been disenfranchised. Marylanders are tired of being ignored in favor of lobbyist and fringe interest groups on both sides. We work hard and expect to be represented fairly. We deserve someone to represent us who shares our core values and views. That's what I'm here to do! Roll up my sleeves on capitol hill and work hard - for you.
