Let’s face it: for young adults with cancer, the experience of living with illness is different from those in other age groups. Questions? Suggestions?

We welcome you to meet people who share a common bond and want to have fun, support each other and learn along the way. This meet-up is for people in their 20s, 30s and 40s who are living with cancer, as well as the caregivers and friends who support them. We welcome survivors at all stages, including those who are pre-treatment/newly diagnosed, currently in treatment, or post-treatment (whether by a few days or a few years). [email protected]

Join us this Saturday morning!

"Receiving a cancer diagnosis and/or transitioning is likely to be overwhelming – there is a lot to figure out. Because of this, something like fertility preservation can seem both unimportant and confusing. Many doctors give limited information on the subject since it isn’t their area of expertise.

You may have already gone through treatment to freeze s***m or eggs, or you may not have even thought about it yet. I look forward to providing information for those at any stage of this process in a short presentation, and answering specific questions you might have."

The AYA Cancer Movement is patients, survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, advocates, nonprofits, hospitals, and industry partners all working together to improve care and outcomes for AYA cancer. While there is extensive support, it needs to go further. Join the movement and help us spread awareness and support for the AYA cancer community.

The AYA Cancer movement has come a long way in improving quality of life for AYA patients...prior to the 2000s there was no dedicated support for adolescent and young adult patients. While we’ve achieved a lot in the past few decades, there is still much work to be done to improve outcomes for all AYAs.

AYA cancer patients and survivors have a right to receive appropriate care, but they are the most underserved patient population by age. Here are some key rights that AYA patients need to keep in mind in order to be strong advocates for themselves throughout diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

The AYA cancer experience is unique. As cancer isn’t expected for this age group, many AYAs suffer from delayed or misdiagnosis. Major life milestones that are tricky for all young people - like starting a career, finishing college, or finding a romantic partner - can feel impossible when cancer is thrown into the mix. One of the goals of week is to raise awareness about the challenges adolescents and young adults under 40 face when dealing with cancer and its long term effects, while also trying to manage their hectic daily lives.

Welcome to week! This week is all about raising awareness about the AYA Cancer community and the unique challenges of adolescent and young adult cancer. Did you know 89,500 young people aged 15-39 will be diagnosed this year in the US? To spread awareness of this special community, this week Smith Center for Healing and the Arts and other groups that support AYAs will be sharing helpful information, resources, and programming. Follow the hashtags so you don’t miss a thing!
