The 2025 NAPABA President’s Award will be presented to Susman Godfrey LLP in recognition of the firm’s steadfast commitment to defending and uplifting the legal profession and the rule of law. The NAPABA Law Foundation (NLF) announced today that three exceptional second-year law students have been awarded SAIL Scholarships for their outstanding professional promise and leadership potential.

-Justin K. Chock, Yale Law School
-Jason Huang, Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University and Watts School of Public Policy
-Heajune (June) Lee, Harvard Law School

“Justin, Jason, and June exemplify academic excellence, leadership in their schools, and a deep commitment to their communities,” said NLF President Bonnie Lee Wolf. “NLF and SAIL are proud to support their journeys toward legal careers and public service, knowing they will continue to uplift and advocate for their communities along the way.”

Today, NAPABA celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. The landmark legislation outlawed discriminatory voting practices, like literacy tests, as a prerequisite to voting. The right to vote is critical to exercising our voices in democracy. NAPABA will continue to safeguard this right for the AANHPI community and beyond.

Today marks the 77th anniversary of Executive Order 9981, which ended segregation in the Armed Forces. Signed by President Harry S. Truman, the EO mandated that all persons in the military, regardless of race, color, religion, or national origin, be treated equally. NAPABA remains committed to equality, and we will continue to push for equal treatment for all people in all spaces.

On July 7, 1898, the United States formally annexed the Kingdom of Hawaii, without the consent of the Hawaiian people. As we reflect on this anniversary, NAPABA acknowledges the need to recognize our history and support the dignity and culture of the Native Hawaiian community.

Today marks the 61st Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This Act outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, s*x, or national origin in areas such as schools, public accommodations, and places of employment. As we celebrate this anniversary, NAPABA remains committed to achieving equality for the AANHPI community and all communities.
