COMMUNITY CONNECTEDNESS
Connectedness means people feel a sense of belonging. They feel seen and heard and know others will be there for them. Community connectedness in the Air Force and Space Force enhances protective factors and reduces risk factors against child abuse and neglect by fostering supportive relationships among families, peers, and the wider community. These connections provide emotional support, resources, and a sense of belonging, which helps families manage stress, recognize unhealthy dynamics, and access needed assistance, ultimately promoting a safer and more nurturing environment for children.

UNIT CONNECTEDNESS
Unit connectedness among Airmen, Guardians, and their families (which are part of the unit) enhances fostering a supportive and cohesive environment. This connectedness provides emotional support, stress management resources, and promotes open communication, helping individuals recognize and address unhealthy dynamics. This collective support ultimately contributes to a safer, more nurturing environment for children. The DAF aims to increase unit cohesion and connectedness, strengthening organizational commitment to our mission and, ultimately, to each other.

FAMILY CONNECTEDNESS
Connectedness is a key protective factor that can create a protective buffer against risk factors people encounter every day. Successful primary prevention efforts are linked to fostering connectedness – meaningful relationships and interpersonal connections that individuals forge with family, friends, colleagues, and their community. When youth feel connected to their families, they gain the emotional and social tools needed to spot unhealthy relationship dynamics, allowing both individuals and families to grow and thrive.
