A beautiful new interpretation of a Croatian classic has arrived. 🇭🇷🎶
Acclaimed Croatian duo Hojsak & Novosel — Tihomir Hojsak on double bass and Filip Novosel on tambura — recently released their own moving rendition of Tvoja zemlja, the beloved song composed by Alfi Kabiljo.
Blending the rich sound of the tambura with the depth and warmth of the double bass, the duo brings a fresh yet deeply emotional perspective to one of Croatia’s most cherished musical pieces.
We are especially proud that Hojsak & Novosel have previously performed at the Embassy, sharing their remarkable artistry with audiences here in Washington.
Bravo on this beautiful release! 🎵

Today marked the final event of our Statehood Day program in Washington, D.C. 🇭🇷🇺🇸
Ambassador Pjer Šimunović and Embassy staff joined members of the Croatian community for the traditional Mass for the Homeland at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated by Reverend Maurus Dolčić.
Following the service, the Croatian a ca****la group Bošket held its final concert in Washington, bringing the sounds of Dalmatian klapa singing to a warm and appreciative audience.
Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout this year’s Statehood Day celebrations and helped make them so meaningful.
Today, we proudly celebrate Croatia’s Statehood Day — honoring the democratic will, freedom, and independence of the Croatian people. 🇭🇷
As we celebrate, we also reflect on the values that continue to guide Croatia today — democracy, peace, solidarity, and strong partnerships with friends and allies around the world, especially the United States.
To Croatians and friends of Croatia everywhere: Happy Statehood Day. Sretan Dan državnosti!

Yesterday evening, the Embassy of Croatia was delighted to host a special concert by the Croatian a ca****la group Bošket as part of our Statehood Day program. 🇭🇷🎶
Guests enjoyed the unique sound of Dalmatian klapa singing — a traditional form of multipart harmony recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The concert brought a beautiful piece of Croatia’s coastal heritage and musical tradition to Washington, creating a warm and memorable evening for all in attendance.
The Embassy is especially grateful to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia for its support in organizing and funding this event.

As Croatia celebrates its Statehood Day and Armed Forces Day this week, we continue our A250 series by honoring the Croatian Americans who answered the call in the early 1990s and returned to help defend Croatia’s independence. 🇭🇷🇺🇸
During the Homeland War, Croatian Americans contributed in many ways — serving in the Croatian Army, reporting from the front lines, supporting humanitarian efforts, and helping Croatia find its voice on the international stage. Guided by a deep love for both of their homelands, they stood with Croatia during one of the most difficult moments in its modern history.
Their courage, solidarity, and sacrifice remain an enduring symbol of the strong bond between Croatia and the Croatian-American community.
To all those who served, helped, and believed in a free and democratic Croatia — thank you. Hvala vam.

Today, we proudly celebrated Croatia’s Statehood Day and Armed Forces Day at the Embassy of Croatia in Washington, D.C. 🇭🇷🇺🇸
We were honored to welcome friends and partners of Croatia, including Deputy Assistant Secretary Daniel Lawton from the U.S. Department of State, Major General Shawn Manke of the Minnesota National Guard, Mayor Alyia Gaskins of Alexandria, and Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich of Biloxi, a proud Croatian American.
The event was a wonderful celebration of Croatia’s democratic journey, its strong partnership with the United States, and the enduring ties between our peoples.
This year’s reception was made especially meaningful by the presence of our exhibition Croatian Americans in the U.S. Armed Forces: History, Service, and Partnership, which offered guests an opportunity to reflect on the generations of Croatian Americans who served with distinction in the United States Armed Forces and helped strengthen the bonds between our two countries.
Thank you to all who joined us for this special occasion.
