Compassion has no age requirement. And these young people are proving it!

Friendship Place extends a heartfelt THANK YOU to the St. Ann DC Youth Group, whose middle and high school students in grades 6–12 came together to prepare sandwich bags for La Casa, one of our permanent supportive housing programs in Washington, DC.

From sixth graders to graduating seniors, these young neighbors are demonstrating something powerful: You don't have to wait until adulthood to make a meaningful difference in your community.

Their generosity reflects the spirit of service, compassion, and looking out for one another that makes our DC community stronger.

For the residents of La Casa, these thoughtfully prepared sandwiches represent more than a meal. They are a reminder that their neighbors care.

To the students, youth leaders, and St. Ann Catholic Church community: THANK YOU!

Your kindness is an inspiring example of young people putting compassion into action. We are grateful for your partnership in Friendship Place's mission of ending homelessness and rebuilding lives.

🫘 SPILL THE BEANS! (Actually, donate them!)

We've got a bean emergency, Washington, DC!

Friendship Place's Welcome Center needs canned black beans and kidney beans with easy-open pull-tab lids to help support our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Why pull tabs? Because access to a can opener shouldn't stand between someone and a meal.

Here's how you can help:

Pick up a few extra cans during your next grocery run and drop them off at:

📍 Friendship Place Welcome Center 4713 Wisconsin Ave NW

Donation Hours:
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
9 AM–12 PM and 1–4 PM

Sometimes, making a difference really is as simple as a can of beans.

DC, let's make it happen!

The Halloween countdown is on, and those candy buckets aren’t going to fill themselves. 👻🍭

Friendship Place is collecting unopened, store-bought Halloween candy for children and families at The Brooks, and we would love some help from our Washington, DC community.

For a child, Halloween can be one of those wonderfully simple nights: picking a costume, hearing “trick or treat,” comparing candy with friends, and going to bed with a bucket that feels impossibly full. Families experiencing homelessness should not have to miss out on those ordinary childhood memories.

So this week, we’re asking for one simple thing: buy an extra bag of Halloween candy. Chocolate, gummies, lollipops, chewy treats, whatever makes a trick-or-treat bucket feel complete.

Every donation helps us create a Halloween at The Brooks that feels joyful, festive, and wonderfully normal for the children who call it home right now. 🎃

Let’s make sure there are plenty of treats waiting when Halloween arrives.

250 snack packs. One incredible act of kindness. Countless moments of care.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the students and school community at Beauvoir – The National Cathedral Elementary School for assembling and donating 250 snack packs to Friendship Place's Welcome Center!

For our neighbors experiencing homelessness, something as simple as a snack can offer more than nourishment. It can be a reminder that someone in their community cares.

These students are learning something powerful: You don't have to be an adult to make a difference in someone's life.

To everyone at Beauvoir helped make this possible, thank you for putting kindness into action and showing our DC neighbors what community looks like!
