MCC’s Board of Directors selected Albania 🇦🇱 as newly eligible to develop a compact, following the passage of the MCC Candidate Country Reform Act.

This selection acknowledges Albania’s democratic history, the efforts of its institutions to fight corruption and uphold the rule of law, and the country’s ongoing development challenges.

MCC and the Government of Mauritania 🇲🇷 signed a $27 million threshold program to modernize the country’s energy sector and enhance environmental resilience.

This program will:
1️⃣ Support Mauritania’s goal of universal access to electricity by 2030.
2️⃣ Build capacity for effective energy management and grid operation.
3️⃣ Advance environmental sustainability through institutional strengthening.

MCC is partnering with Mauritania to drive inclusive growth and tackle critical challenges.

2024 : This December, CEO Alice Albright joins President Biden’s delegation to Angola representing MCC and its partnerships in Africa.
As part of the National Defense Authorization Act, President Biden signed the

MCC Candidate Country Reform Act into law, expanding our candidate country pool to 33 additional countries. This legislation strengthens our mission to reduce poverty through economic growth.

2024 : In October, MCC signs the $491 million Zambia Farm-to-Market Compact, expanding MCC’s total investments in Zambia to over $800 million. This transformative partnership focuses on strengthening Zambia’s agricultural sector through agro-processing infrastructure, fostering inclusive economic growth.

We also celebrate the Zambia-MCC partnership alongside Feed the Future at the 2024 World Food Prize event. Key leaders in agriculture and development highlight efforts to tackle food insecurity and drive economic progress through collaborative initiatives between the U.S. government and Zambia.

🇧🇿 Belize: On September 4, MCC CEO Alice Albright and Prime Minister John Briceño sign a $125 million compact aimed at enhancing secondary education and reducing electricity costs in Belize.

On September 18, The Council on Foreign Relations hosts a panel discussion titled “The Millennium Challenge Corporation at 20: Progress and Prospects.”The event features MCC CEO Alice Albright, Ambassador Lynn Raymond Young of Belize, and Gary Edson, former Deputy National Security Advisor. The three panelists reflect on MCC’s two decades of promoting economic development and poverty reduction and discuss the future of economic diplomacy and the evolving challenges in global poverty.

2024 : In July, MCC is named the world’s most transparent bilateral development agency for the third consecutive time by the 2024 Aid Transparency Index, ranking third among all major international organizations.

MCC CEO Alice Albright also visits Seattle to tour the MCC-funded UUTI Summer Academic Program at the University of Washington, where 50 high school students from 🇰🇮 are participating in English-language courses and life skills training to boost their future career prospects.
